There was a man who wore red shoes
who caught the Asian swine bird flues
Walked with a bad gait
crooked as a grate
and sang the gooney bird rap blues

If you were a superhero,
You'd sense me watching you

I'd tell you that I like your shoes
You'd take me for a stroll

We'd walk along the boulevard
You'd tell me your tall tales

I'd watch you save a damsel
We'd stop to quench our thirst

Toasting once for bravery
and another for the buzz

We'd dance on lightening toes
to saxophones and flutes

We’d share our hopes with loosened tongues
Planning bedtime with our glances

After we had tired of talk
and the night turned crisp and black

You'd fly me through the heavens
Riding starlight to your home

We'd spend the evening naming stars
reluctant to meet the morn

But when the sun
would dawn on us
so would shine the truth

you're just the shy neighbor-man
And I'm your silly fool

Cryptic messages leverage ego,
aimed at few invited eyes.
Bypass ami, druk, amigo,
'til the writer's bleak surprise.

Message aimed is message lost,
audiences defines selves.
Efforts waste their dearest cost,
unseen works interred on shelves.

pavement cracked, autumn leaves.
wandering man leaning
into winter still to come.
voyeur watches
as day breaks into memory,
the rich synthetic
of man walking,
there for always
like a stone in your throat,
a day now captured to polaroid
for others to ponder,
images caught up
in swirling eddies of autumn
leaves, gutter spun.

I am the emptiness
of the world.

My softest steps echo
in the desolation

of spirit, of flesh
of companionship.

I am the last among
the fallen;

withered leaves at my feet
the world broken
and lost
by my command.
