There! I think we're all set to start the month.

Oh wait, we need eggnog and mulled wine.

Eggnog? Mmmm... Let's see, I've still got my mom's Christmas cookie recipes. Now I just need to unbury the kitchen so I can actually bake. Virtual cookies have no calories, right?

Well, I've been saying I would take a short break from writing in December to recuperate from NaNo, but my imagination isn't cooperating. All I can think about is diving into the revision for "Better Than One", the rough draft I finished writing by hand in October. A 500 word a day challenge sounds about the right speed, but for me, I think it'll be a "get at least a page typed-in" a day challenge. Back to slow and steady instead of sprinting sounds like a plan.

Good luck, everyone!

Good luck, everyone! (now pass the cider)

I'm finishing up my outline for Second Sight. It's a whopper. 23,300 words of outline so far and it will probably be around 25,000 by the time I'm done. I'll let the outline sit while I get to editing First Ghost.

:Sun: I'll take a hit of that eggnog, Meow!

I have Baileys over here! :D

I started a new novel this month. I'm almost 1300 words into it. It's slow moving so far, but I know so much about them already that I'm sure this is a novel. Then again, I'm usually slower at the start. Anyone else start off wondering and hoping?

So I'd like to add another 300 words tonight.:e2writer:

Hi, storyteller. :) Hey, we do have a nice crowd here.

1074 tonight. Why do I always wind up writing so late when I have to get up the next day??

Well, I don't know where I was when I started writing. I found this thread after I'd done a piece, but I'm closing the file for the night at 1900 words. :snoopy: Chapter One is finished. I'm always a bit nervous about where chapter breaks go, but I think the first chapter can stand alone. Isn't it supposed to kind of be a story on its own? Yep, I haven't shut my critic out yet on this piece. Maybe in chapter two?

So my story is more mainstream and not m/t/s as the forum says, but you did say all genres. ;) What are the rest of you working on?

My writing output has slowed to a drip, but I did manage to sketch an outline for another short story last night. Judging from the outline, it looks like it will run around 7K words. I'm a bit nervous because this one can only be classified as literary erotica, and I'm really shy about it. I've already targeted the markets I want to send it to, so now I have a goal to motivate me.

Storyteller, I'd recommend pushing forward on chapter two and worry about where the chapter breaks fall after you've finished the draft of the whole book. Chances are, you'll have a better perspective on where it fits when you see the story as a whole. Just my $0.02.

:Sun: for people who are getting words down!
:poke: for people who need it!

Welcome to the thread, Storyteller, and good luck on your novel! For me, I write in terms of scenes. I figure I'll break the story apart in terms of chapters in revision. For now, keep moving forward.

Well, the cold which has been floating around work finally caught up with me, so I'm not sure how productive I'll be this week. The good news is that I'm working out some of the settings for my story, so when I start revising, the characters won't be talking in the middle of a blank page anymore.

I work in scenes too, but I know others who think in terms of chapters. Both can work, just as long as you break something down into digestible chunks.

Haven't written anything in a write-write kind of way; I've been busy outlining a rewrite of my first work in November with SuperNotecard (Mindola Software). It's quite neat, as it also gives me a place to store characters easily and create references between notecards and decks of notecards. And somehow I managed to create 20 characters or so during the course of writing the first draft, and need a way to seriously keep them straight and figure out when they showed up. And it has a timeline feature, which I never seriously considered before and now must do so.

I think it's kinder to the trees. I went through 500 notecards during November, and over 600 so far in all this year. I don't know how. But I did.

And trees have fallen over here and the power is out. Praise the lord for UPS's and efficient laptops.

Finally able to get back to work on the historical today after a month's absence. Too many projects with deadlines, but they're all done now, and I managed 516 words today.

Meowgirl, I do plan to keep pushing forward. I've completed two novels which I didn't add chapter breaks to until draft two. I want to try writing with chapters this time to see how it works for me. I'm not a big outliner, usually only know a few of the big points ahead, so I have to just follow the characters to see what happens.

I'm really glad I found this thread; I'm working on getting back to daily writing again (now that my daughter is 8m old). This thread helps.

Added 900 words today. :snoopy:

1093, plus a challenge story. My first day back at work full-time, and I thought more about story than I did the whole month of November. (wrote half those words at work on a break. :) )

:Sun: for Storyteller! 900 is great!

I wrote thousands of words for work today, but somehow I don't think those count.....

I need another swig of spiked cider. ::hic:: Oh wait, did Storyteller say she had Bailey's? Are you willing to share? :D

Yes, I do indeed have Baileys and it's the good Irish Cream Baileys, not the bastardized other flavours they have put out there. Hand over your cup, Meowgirl!

I'm running on an hour of sleep so I haven't done any writing yet today. It's hard enough to keep up with my two children, but hopefully tonight! I'm a little stuck on what comes next so I need my characters to talk to me. I suspect but I'm not quite certain.

:Sun: Bard is back!

Welcome to the 500 words a day (5wd) Storyteller5! Can you spare a little Bailey's? Finished my outline for Second Sight and started editing First Ghost today. :hooray: for progress!

Was supposed to sing at the zoo's Light Festival tonight, but they cancelled due to the cold. Disappointing, but not entirely bad: my characters have been running around my head all day saying, "Now? Is it time? Now?"

Thanks for the welcome back, Soccer Mom.

550 words. I'm not sure about this piece. I think it'll need serious edits later, but I'm getting the story down. That's the key right now. At least, that's what I keep telling myself.

:Sun: all around!

Storyteller, yeah, I'm doing the same. The infernal editor is awake enough to take notes of what I have to fix later, but I'm not letting him interfere just yet.

1801 today (now over 80K on Waukrife Alec). Not up to NaNo totals this month, but definitely still in the habit!
