I found out tonight that my horror script RED WEDDING is a semifinalist for the Slamdance Horror Competition. Top 20 out of 500+.

The Grand Prize winner gets $10,000 and their movie will be produced by Angel Baby Entertainment. The film will screen at next year's Slamdance Film Festival.

The winner will be announced January 26.

I'm on pins and needles.

And the needles are drawing blood...

The short movie giving me my first screenplay credit "Crossroads", a 13 minute dark fantasy, has just been completed by director Andrew Harrington in Massachusetts..

You'll have to forgive me because this is a non-horror woo-hoo, but seeing how the Horror forum is my usual haunt I had to post it here.

EnWorld, a community-based RPG website finally announced the finalists for their first series of novels based off their newest line of fantasy gaming modules, the War of the Burning Sky. I made the short list among four other authors and our names are now posted on the website:

I've had to wait nearly two weeks to say this publically and now I can scream about my almost success! Damn I'm psyched.

I just received word from the editor of Beginnings Magazine that my story There Goes the Neighborhood placed third in their winter writers contest. They haven't linked the story or posted the winnings, but because I've been waiting so patiently since October, she decided to inform me early. (Just a note: they were going to have a Fall Contest, but due to lack of entries she asked to push it out to winter, which I agreed to.)

Not the greatest of news, but worth while for me, considering I've had such a streak of bad luck, to include two refusals on stories the editors loved but couldn't fit in the publication.

BTW, I'll post a link when I get word that it's up.

Kudos to you! Placing third isn't anything to scoff at. Just so you know that you're not alone, as my sig suggests, I've already had three rejections this year. At least we're cranking them out as opposed to holding them in a locked drawer somewhere so no one can ever appreciate them.

Thanks, Pike. Since the start of this year I've had 2 refusals, 2 rejections and one site closed. With that in mind, I still have 6 subbed out and I believe I will have another two read to sub by the first week of March. It sure doesn't get easier.:)
