Greetings From The Berkshires Of Massachusetts......
Feel free to pull up a computer screen and sit awhile ...
I’m Helen Wassell and I’ve been living here in the Berkshires for just a tad over five years now. I was born and raised down the Mass Pike a ways, in Hartford, CT., in a part of the city, that is still known today as " the north end ". A section of the city where housing projects, drugs, gangs and people trying to survive and raise families, all co-existed side by side. My family " moved to the suburbs " in the summer between the end of 2nd grade and the start of 3rd grade. My family then consisted of: my mother, grandmother (her mom),grandfather(her dad) and myself. My father had passed away when I was three.
Life was "pretty normal " through my remaining school years, the summer I graduated high school and before starting college; I came out to my family and my three closest friends, At the age of 17, I became my families only lesbian daughter, granddaughter, niece and cousin. The summer before that, I went to broadcasting school and by summer’s end, had received my FCC radio license. I worked in commercial radio and
non-commercial radio, for over ten years in the Hartford area. During this time, I also started writing for local publications. Throughout school, I always seemed to get the best grades when it came time for creative writing projects. I was lucky enough to have been encouraged to write, by my seventh and ninth grade English teachers.
Today, I live here in Pittsfield, Massachusetts with my life - partner, Paula and " our three fur children: Shug, Smudge and Avalon. As far as my writing goes, there are never enough hours in the day to write and create all that I want to do; but it sure is a great ride trying
.
I look forward to sharing my writings and thoughts about writing here on-line with all of you. May you all be safe and well.
