What is YOUR ideal HERO??

I'll share mine:

The hero I am always looking to write and that attracts me to most romances are the heroes that are hard to get, and resist. Like your just a middle-class woman, and he is a stud billionaire, or hardcore detective who has no family, has a bad past, who swears off any woman he sees as a serious commitment. He prefers one-night standers. The one you want to love, and hate at the same time because he won't give himself completely. The quiet ones.

That's mine. What's yours?

I'll second the foot rubbing thing, and straight is useful. :D

I like the stoic/sarcastic types; they gotta have a bit (or more than a bit) of dark in them; have to be able to walk into a board room or a knife fight with equal poise. A hard worker who rarely if ever says what's really on his mind, has a sharp and unforgiving sense of humor, a great repertoire of one-liners, no patience for fools or indecisive types, and is solidly, wordlessly loyal to the people he bothers to care about.

Oh, and knock-your-socks-off in bed. Of course. Plus foot rubs and minty-fresh breath.

I don't want much.

The one I want to write about or the one I want to marry? Two very different creatures. ;)

Agreed

Mine is tall, dark, and handsome-of course he is

also very dark, mysterious, passionate, hard to get, strong (Muscles baby,) and poised

He should be able to walk into a room with stealth but every woman will know he is there.

SO...it would take way too long to describe him, so instead I will just name the man that comes closest.
J.D. Robb's Roarke.

I suppose I mean the ideal hero you would love to write about, someone you want to get to know.

My ideal hero is the wounded, emotionally stunted guy whose sacrifices go largely unrecognized by society. (IE he saves the world but ends up looking like the bad guy.)

In real life? I love the squishy huggy lovey teddy bear. (IE my husband. ;))

My ideal hero is one who's in it for the long haul. Relationships take work, communication and commitment. And that counts for real or fictional heroes.

I should correct my post: Any straight guy who will rub my feet and not get all turned on and crazy because he's into feet and feet alone and goes to creepy foot websites and doesn't need me, just feet.

That would be inconvenient 'cause I would have to shoot him and feed him to the wood chipper by the catfish pond and that can use up a whole freakin' day and getting ALL the blood cleaned up is just a bitch.

I like heroes with a sense of humor, even if it's dark humor or just plain sarcasm. Gotta love those witty remarks. Heroes that take themselves too seriously turn me off.

Hmmmm...

He needs a bit of an edge... not too soft and fuzzy. He should move with an almost predatory grace. His eyes should be intense.

I don't go in for the muscle-bound pretty boys. Johnny Depp is more my speed. I like them to have the defined muscles of a swimmer, not look like Ah-Nold.

An internal code of honor is a must. It need not be readily apparent or fit in with society's norms, but somewhere deep inside, he's got to have a guiding moral code and a keen sense of justice.

Any hint of sexism will turn me off a man. Actually, most -isms will turn me off. And smoking. I really can't handle smoking. It's gone beyond a normal negative reaction and landed right in the middle of psychosis territory.

Gotta love animals. Needs a sense of humor. Must be adventurous in bed.

I'm also a sucker for a man with large hands...those big hands clasping mine, or holding my waist, or just pressing into the small of my back... *melts*

*ahem* Going back to writing, now. :D

Funny you should mention that Monkey, I feel the same way! It's a huge turnoff for me. To the point when I judge in RWA contests and EITHER character smokes I just cringe. :tongue

I don't know if I have an "ideal". Sometimes I like the muscle bound alphas and sometimes the more sensative betas. Heck, any man is cool with me, LOL

In novels: Christian from Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale. In a heart beat.

Come to think about it, he wouldn't be bad in real life either. Though I could probably do without the duke part. LOL!

Christian Bale--when he hasn't lost half his body weight for a role--is definitely mm mm good.

Although, I have a really hard time watching him in any film without thinking--"Eat your Weevils!"
And that effects the yummy factor a little. :D

*Note--It's from Empire of the Sun--in case that's a far more obscure reference than I realized.

He has a great sense of humour ('cause it's so much fun to write!), is wickedly clever and knows how to make the most of any situation. He doesn't need to have baggage, but he doesn't mind a woman who has baggage. He is romantic without realizing it. So, he'll say something completely honest that will make all of the women around him melt, but won't necessarily realize that he said it. Oh, and he has a tattoo somewhere. :D

Every fantasy hero I've written about has had a few things in common, and they're all qualities I'd want in a man.

My ideal hero is someone with a passion in life... and I don't mean the heroine. Oh, he'll love her with all his heart, but he will also have a profession or a vocation in which he's very involved, not just for gainful employment but because it makes him that much more interesting.

He's direct, even blunt, but he has a sense of humor. He's not aggressive, but he doesn't take any crap from anyone either. Still, he's more likely to think his way out of a problem than resort to force, unless he's given no other choice.

He's not religious and tends to be skeptical. His moral code may not align perfectly with that of society, but it's there nevertheless, and he has both integrity and responsibility. That's one reason he won't have casual sex unless he's sure that there's no chances of conception. Once that's taken care of, though... ;)

My ideal hero has a strong code of honor and morality. He's not actually "brooding", but carries around some degree of angst from what he considers a past "failing". He's quite stoic, though, so this emotional baggage is hidden from everyone but his closest friend or lady love - the only people he will occasionally show his vulnerable side to. He's a battle-scarred warrior, and when I say scarred, I mean literally. (see right arm on icon :) ) Ideally he'd have a small scar, say, over a brow, or along the cheek, and of course a couple more larger ones somewhere less obvious. He's definitely in good physical shape and has a strong jaw line and nice hands. He's a man of relatively few words, but has a sharp sense of humor and a keenly observant eye and is knowledgeable about a lot of things. He's decisive and excellent in a crisis, extremely masculine in voice and the way he moves, and confident but not cocky. And he's the one-woman type -- once he's found the right woman he's forever faithful.

*sigh*
