My wife and I went to Downtown Chicago to see the movie Hitman and arrived late (as usual) the only movie available was the Disney flick "Enchanted" Of course I immediatly went into "Piss and Moan" mode about not wanting to pay money to see a freaken cartoon. (Didn't have a clue what the flick was about anyway)
After stroking my male ego a bit and reminding me to lighten up for the holiday, which I was still nursing a hang over (drank yours too, Mac) Anyway I begrudging bought tickets for the show which I must admit, was one of the best dang pieces of entertainment I've seen in a long time.

I know it's brand new so I'm not going play spoiler here, but this flick was original in thought, unique in as much as it stayed with'in itself (at least up until the end, not a complaint, more of an observation) and written with just enough sarcasim to keep a lifelong skeptic totally entertained to the point of falling out of my chair in fits of laughter at some of the bits.... Hollywood needs to look at this film and remember that it is above all, STORY and WRITING that makes good movies, not special effects...... Check it out if you get a chance.

To get my daughter to read, my husband and I made a deal with her - for every chapter book she reads, one of us will take her to a movie. So far, I've avoided Mr. Bean's Holiday, (this is the movie that precipitated the agreement) - but I had to give up a Saturday to see The Bee Movie (might not have been bad, if the writers had decided beforehand what plot they were going to use - it changed three times over the course of the movie.)

Then she saw promos for Enchanted - and finished a book in about two days. I'm looking forward to seeing this and it's good to know it won't be two hours of my life I'll wish I could have back.

Mr. Magorium's Magic Emporium is next - I'm hoping it'll go the way of the dodo by the time she finishes another book.

I liked it. A lot, actually. Apparently the film tested well with males as well (probably because of the satire and comedy), even 18-35 (which is a really tough sell for a "fairy tale" Disney film -- most wouldn't be caught dead at a showing even if dragged by their girlfriends/wives). I was surprised that half the audience at the showing were men. I think the tongue-in-cheek jab at Disney's cartoons was a draw (it's good to have a company that can laugh at itself), and then the film just turned into a fun romantic comedy. And I'm glad to see Alan Menken back with his catchy tunes.

Once I realized what the movie was about and where they were going i started looking for the little tidbits from past flicks, i might go back just to see what I missed....

There are many inside jokes and references. Made it even more hilarious if you get it. :) The whole cheesiness (James Marsden's clueless, singing Prince just cracks me up) is totally a sendup of the "Disney classics," for example.

Did you catch the sign on the restaurant "Bellanotte, I think I spelled it wrong.... But the reference to Lady and the tramp. I loved it...
What I dug was that they really played it straight as if dempsey's charactor really thought this chick was just a bone head, and stayed with it as long as they could... I got to see it again....I'm insane....

The cockroaches really had me on the floor. I thought it was brilliant -- the only "creatures" she could call up are rats, one-legged pigeons, flies, and cockroaches. LOL.

The peasant line was priceless.

Actually, that--to me, at least-- is giving this movie a ringing endorsement. I told Chaos last night that if this movie appeals to this many guys, we have to go see it. Even though I want to anyways because Patrick Dempsey is in it... *drool*

I went to this with my mom, little sister, and a friend who loves Disney more than anyone alive. Her dream is to be a performer there, or maybe on Broadway, but her dad doesn't really approve.

And anyway we were laughing the whole time, my friend and I. It was an entertaining movie.

I 'am officially designating Enchanted to be a guys cult movie... "Let it be written" "Let be done" (Saying attributed to either Pharoah or Ule Brenner, whichever)

Just make sure they don't come take our man-cards away. (I'll just give them III's since I already confiscated that).

I'm just sitting down to write my column on this film ... I loved it too, for all the reasons already mentioned.

*ITTY-BITTY SPOILER ALERT*

My favourite line, delivered with utter sincerity by Prince Edward: "Thank you, peasants."

Digging this thread up because I just saw it the other day. Loved it. It's been a long time since I've been to the movies and simply had fun, and I hate romantic comedies. I'm glad this was much more than that.

Favorite lines: "We shall be married tomorrow!" and "Wait, he knows the song too?"

Amy Adams was brilliant. And for the role/depth of his character, I thought Patrick Dempsey played wonderfully too.

I was very impressed with Dempsey. He invested so much more than was necessary into a character that was little more than a sketch. He obviously did some homework, and he really didn't need to. I was surprised at how much work he obviously put into a part that could have been so easy to just gloss over.

Good to know. I'm positive I'll be taking a kid or two or four to see it in the near future. Now I'm not dreading it.

I'm going to tell my husband that all the Manliest Men on this site liked Enchanted (I've been trying to get him to see it with me) so try to hold on to your man cards a little bit longer gents. Considering our last movie (rented though) was Live Free or Die Hard, he owes me.

Trust us... This is a good one.. and the best part I think - is that after it sits with you for a while, you want to see it again, which coming from me, at least, is almost unheard of if it the movie dosen't have John Wayne, or Clint Eastwood headlining....

I was supposed to take my daughter to see that, then her aunt offered and since Aunt Teresa's the "cool" aunt and I'm just the mom, guess who won? :D

Guess I'll wait for DVD **sighs**

I saw it yesterday and the whole time I had this stupid grin on my face. Now my movie of choice will always be the angsty, tortured hero, everyone dies in the end kind of movie. But for some reason, I decided on some lighter fare. I am so glad I saw this movie. Loved it to bits.

I have to see this now!

I notice it's getting hellaciously good reviews (a 94 on the Tomatometer), so what you all are saying seems to be the critical mass.

I'd go see it again just to look for more Disney references. I thought they did a nice job putting references to their past films in the background, without being really obvious.

It still is what it is. I mean, it's sweet and there are musical numbers and despite a sense of irony, the message and the performances are wonderfully sincere. If you're the type of person who can't stand musicals, or happy endings, or even a tiny bit of cheese . . . it probably isn't right for you.

But I thought it was just lovely! (and I loved the cleaning up the apartment scene!)
