Places in the earth that are supposed to have high amounts of some kind of energy, like spiritual, magical or chi? I thought I heard of such a word before, but can't remember what it was or what belief it went with.

Leylines (although they're lines stretching from one place to another, not places per se... I guess there's a difference)

Places of power (<--highly imaginative, I know)

If you are doing something about thta, i would look at LE MOdessitt's Cadmian's choice/soarer's choice. they use ley lines as magic sources. i forget where else ive seen that.

Here's a bit from wikepedia on the telluric current and it's uses in fiction:

The main plot of the novel Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco revolves around search of the Ombilicus Mundi (Latin: The Navel of the World), the mystic Center of The Earth which is supposed to be a certain point from were a person could control the energies and shapes of the earth thus reforming it at will. The novel takes this even further by suggesting that monuments like the Eiffel Tower are nothing more than giant antenna to catalyze these energies.
Telluric currents are also used as a means of travel by the woman Hsien-Ko and her minions in the Doctor Who "Missing Adventures" novel, The Shadow of Weng-Chiang, by David A McIntee.

I'd use node or nexus for a place of power, rather than a line of power. "vortex" makes me think an energy sink rather than an energy source.

I've been involved in some out there discussions with people who thought they could channel this energy to walk through walls or fly to the moon.

Their "research" called them all the things above - vortex, nodes, nexus, ley lines.

They recommended going to a hot spring along a ley line to replenish my chi. My chi was unimpressed.

Different cultural names. Australian Aboriginal Dreamtime stories include songlines, djang, dreaming places -- I don't know the language, but I'm sure it's google-able. There must be other cultural names for the idea of places of power/spiritual force.

In Occult terms such a point is called a Focal point. There are basically two types of Focal points; The spontaneous and the established. My guess is that you are looking for an spontaneous Focal point.

A focal point can be described as a point, where reality and metaphysics becomes a question of perception. It is via a Focal point shamans and other transcending characters enter the spirit world. It is also via a Focal point, that an Occultist/Theurgist would summon a spiritual being, often seen in fiction as a pentagram drawn on the floor. The doors of perception are right open at such points.

Since the term Focal point don't really lend itself to fictional writing (it sounds like something from a sales brochure, or a marketing strategy), i would suggest something like: Gyre.

You can always make it a something-gyre depending on what you need.

I just wanted to add, that the above is research not a personal belief.

Why not create a word from others and make your own?

As in the Greek word for Earth is geo a word for power is dunamis.

You could make up a word using those.

And many more using Egyptian words for earth-middle-power.
Or even Latin.

I have a friend who calls them spiritual portals. The concept is that this area has a greater amount of energy due to spirits ( or whatever you want to call them) entering and leaving earth.
