Speaking as a book slut:
I do love paranormals, both romance and mysteries in that genre, straight mysteries, thrillers, but also read some straight romance, if I find it keeps my attention.
Now Crime writers John Sandford and Robert B. Parker's new series (darn the name of the character has slipped my mind at the moment) are at the top of my list. They flow and are quick and are soooo well written. But then IMHO those writers are gurus. They even have romance of sorts in their stories....it's true!!!
But thrillers are my escape from it all and I don't attempt to write them.
When I write romance eventually I veer off into something paranormal or mysterious. It's difficult for me to write it straight. I am fond of romantic comedy and as at this moment I'm managing to write it without branching into any other genre.
Molly, which romance stories in particular, or which publishers do you mean for the lack of actual romance? Harlequin's category romances guidelines and editors IMHO emphasize emotion of romance should be on every page, or am I wrong.
I did find the article interesting. Thanks.
Josie
