I'm a total book slut.

Great article. Thanks for posting it.
A dearth of contemporary romance, huh? There's hope for me yet.

Great article, thank for posting the link. And yeah, I'm another book slut. Is there a badge?

Also, I'm happy-happy that contemporary might creep back since that's what I'm currently writing.

I prefer Book Whore. :D

Yes, I read around, though I'm fiercely loyal to my favorite authors.

Me too!! :) I'm slutty in a historical/paranormal/erotica/sci-fi/thriller/comedy way. lol. I only picked up my first romance 4 or 5 years ago, before that I was straight thriller or sci-fi/fantasy. Now I find that I dislike reading those straight genres, and miss the romance, relationships, and even the sex. I mean, in real life people flirt, have sex, and fall in love ALL the time, especially while other dramatic things are happening. SO why ignore it?
anyways, good article.

I'm definitely easy. I'll slip into something comfortable and crack open almost any book you put in front of me. But like Kristie, I'm thinking of my favorite authors the whole time. ;)

Speaking as a book slut:

I do love paranormals, both romance and mysteries in that genre, straight mysteries, thrillers, but also read some straight romance, if I find it keeps my attention.

Now Crime writers John Sandford and Robert B. Parker's new series (darn the name of the character has slipped my mind at the moment) are at the top of my list. They flow and are quick and are soooo well written. But then IMHO those writers are gurus. They even have romance of sorts in their stories....it's true!!!
But thrillers are my escape from it all and I don't attempt to write them.

When I write romance eventually I veer off into something paranormal or mysterious. It's difficult for me to write it straight. I am fond of romantic comedy and as at this moment I'm managing to write it without branching into any other genre.

Molly, which romance stories in particular, or which publishers do you mean for the lack of actual romance? Harlequin's category romances guidelines and editors IMHO emphasize emotion of romance should be on every page, or am I wrong.

I did find the article interesting. Thanks.

Josie :)

Very cool article. Who the heck is Eric Jerome Dickey and has anyone read Waking with Enemies? I've never read a romance novel by a guy, but I'm really tempted.

He writes a lot of AA romance novels and I believe some erotica like in the vein of Zane's books. I think he started out self pubbed, too.

I'm so tempted to make a Book Slut/Tramp/etc. button for message boards, blogs and things lol.

Same here. I tried writing a straight romance short and I couldn't hang too long. I tried recently to write another straight romance but it turned into a romantic suspense. Now I can't get enough of the paranormal and mystery romances. Although I do still love a good IR romance (to which I've always been partial).

that's great!!! I like the one on the left best also. I am talented, but drinking, reading AND entertaining (or being entertained by) a man all at once seems a little extreme.

Hehe I was thinking all of them at once within a book would be fabulous but I prob should have added something about a party in a book LOL. (Which can be a lil corny...although true!)

Feel free to use it as you like!

MissLadyRae:

Thanks so much. Both icons are wonderful. The one on the left is the best. But thanks for making them. I'm going to use both.

You are an impressive, writer/artist

Cheers, Josie

Molly: Oh well, I just don't read many straight romances anyway, unless they are a good humor one. But once in a while think, I think a new one looks interesting.

Molly, what series were you reading? Because certain series are all about that small town focus. American, for example. That's the hallmark of a Harlequin American romance. Small town.

Plus, you say they were used. What year published, please?

Because Harlequin, even Superromance, has been hammering their writers recently - do NOT forget the romance. Romance front and center.

But which particular line has a BIG impact on what else you get with your romance. :)

I usually am doing one book at home and one at work. I don't tell them about each other.
