Why should the big kids get all the fun?
Welcome to our first fabulous Children/YA forum contest! This is open to all Children's/YA/MG/PB/freelance writers, so get down with your bad self and join!
Inspiration:

Theme: First day of school or starting a new school, what's lurking in the locker? Please use the image above as the inspiration for your story.
Word count: Up to 2000 for picture book/short story/first chapter or 200 for poem
Rules:
Entry must be titled.
This may be the beginning of a longer story - please note if this will continue onto a longer work - but you'll need to draw us in with a bang to get the votes!
One entry per person
All entries must be in my PM box by December 3rd, 9:00pm EST.
How to enter:
DO NOT copy your entry into this thread, it will be deleted and not included in the contest (since we'll all know it's you ;)). PM me with your entry, put "contest entry" in the subject line.
Prizes - you may choose one of the following:
* A subscription to the AW Premium Markets Newsletter
* $20 gift card to Powell's Books (http://powells.com)
* One business card design or website logo banner, graphic emailed to you in .jpeg format by AWs own Southern Fried Julie
* Any book from the AW Library

* Your choice of one book by Jenna Glatzer, including:
o Make a Real Living as a Freelance Writer: How to Win Top Writing Assignments
o Outwitting Writers' Block: And Other Problems of the Pen

Deadline in case you missed the glaring red above: December 3rd by 9p EST.
How to vote:
Entries will be posted December 4th.
Please put "contest vote" in the subject line of your PM with your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices. Include both the number of entry plus the title.
Votes will be tallied as follows: 1st choice earns three points, 2nd = 2pts, 3rd = 1pt.
You have until December 9th, 10pm EST to vote because I hate to wait on these things. Winners will be announced December 10th.
