2/3 into the mystery. Plot outline has changed a lot. That's fine. Minor character has shoved his face into the major character list. I've been dealing with it. He's creepy and evil, but he's doing good things to the story.
Today: MC has date with a different minor character. Mr. Creepy is also in the scene. I'm valiantly recording the conversations, listening to MC's date plan how he's going to up his RPG skills.
Then I had to stop and make supper. While I'm cleaning the dishes, It hit.
Mr. Creepy was the weenie younger brother of the villain. Completely under her thumb. At least in his initial character sketch. He's been changing, like I said. But whole new possibilities opened up to me as I scrubbed a roasting pan. (I should get this guy out of my head, but...wow.) HE'S the major villain. His older sister went to him to solve her problem. He's orchestrated the whole thing.
This does amazing things to the long climactic scene. Changes the entire dynamic. Changes...so much! Brings new villain subplot possibilities. Brings new horrible stuff into my MC's life. Oh, wow.
Someone tell me I'm not a babbling lunatic and that this really is a good thing! My DH votes for "babbling lunatic."
