Someone e-mailed me today that they suspect the quote in my signature that is attributed to Irving G. Thalberg is nothing but an urban legend. He supposedly never said any such thing. But I maintain that I first read this quote in a scriptwriting textbook years ago, and then I got it off the internet this past spring when I first joined AW. (I said to myself, "Now who was it that said that thing about scriptwriters being important?" So I did a search and found the quote and slapped it in my AW sig. It's been in my sig ever since.)
I was ORIGINALLY told that Mr. Thalberg said it during a closed board meeting at MGM some time back in the 1930's. And then the minutes to that meeting got swept away into some archive for decades. And then in the 1970's that archive was opened, and thus his words were revealed to the public for the first time.
But now I'm told it's not even true.
Anybody??????
