GRINDHOUSE was it well-written?

Well, if you look at it from a traditional sense, I'd have to say "no". I only saw "Planet Terror", but it was choppy (even excepting the missing reel), with clunky dialogue and rather stereotypical characters. I think it was the energy and passion of the human element that made the film stand out, rather than any particular skill of the wordsmith behind it.

That's not to say that I didn't find it immensely entertaining, because I did. Just as a bacon cheeseburger with gravy fries isn't necessarily healthful but sure does taste good, I enjoyed "Planet Terror" for all its nutritionally bankrupt shortcomings.

By themselves, no. But if you consider they're tribute to the old Grindhouse movies, I think they were spot-on.

I agree with the above. It certainly depends on what you mean by "well-written." The writing has a purpose, and it's not the same as most movies. Grindhouse movies had awesome titles and posters, but many of them just sucked. They were so bad that they went past bad, past good and back to bad again. The purpose of these 2 movies was to make a movie in that style that lived up to the posters. I think they succeeded in one case, and not another.
