From boing boing, (http://www.boingboing.net/2005/02/23/novelists_bitter_abu.html) a novelist keeps getting slam reviews from his own abusive father.

Anytime you find yourself using the word "Perversion" to describe the artwork of another human being...
1) Go buy some Geritol.
2) Tattoo a swastica to your arm, so we can see you coming.
3) Contact your local paramedics to come and get the cork out of your ***.
Now if it's your own son...
4) Check yourself into the VA hostpital because you have issues.
5) Seriously consider the possibility that you've been brainwashed.
6) Ask your damn self why your son is such a pervert.

I wouldn't go that far. Just because a person creates it doesn't mean it can't be perverted or disgusting. People do perverted things all the time, and just because it's "art" doesn't mean it's good in any way.
I think judgement is called for in all things at all times. Nothing is all good or all bad, and creating something has no bearing on its worth.

Isn't it just sad to see unsupportive family? Whether the book is good or not should have no bearing to a parent. *insert obscenities directed at unsupportive family here*

I can only imagine what my dear mother would say if I published something. She never quite forgave me for not entering the priesthood.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Especially family members...

Indifference from family members I could handle. Outright hate is a whole 'nother story. How sad.
