I read about it in the paper the day before, so I didn't watch it. But I congratulate Elizabeth Hay (from my town!!) and look forward to picking up and reading a copy of Late Nights on Air. I read A Student of Weather several years ago. It wasn't the easiest read, but the images and characters have stayed with me and make me want to read Hay's latest novel.
I think it's great that the Giller went to an early-career author instead of an established icon like Ondaatje or Vassanji. It gives other early-career authors hope of attaining this kind of recognition.
