Lose focus?

Does anyone lose focus the idea of your story when you write, or have been writing solid for a couple hours?

While I write I try to keep the goal of each scene in mind, along with the overall story arc, so that I have to go and get milk this afternoon and run to the bank before I pick up the kids from school.

Maybe. Yeah. Sometimes.

Sure. Especially the big picture focus. But that's why revision exists.

In all seriousness though, I have lost track of scenes, and actually whole books at times. I sometimes am writing away and think, what on earth was I trying to do here? Usually when that happens I go back and rethink the scene.

What I experienced a couple of days ago I was rewriting my chapter one, and I was going crazy writing and I didn't want to stop because I hadn't felt the need to write for a while, but the story was taking over, not my imagination, and then it wasn't consistent, either.
