short report
clipped words
he was being transported
his red sports car didn't make the turn
I can hear his out breath
a frustrated exhale
then silence
volumes of quiet

(all I can think of is that the flowers died...and it makes me sad...)

only. you can only.
going is such longing,
such reaching
in the only lane
from which you came.

and in the shallow
a water. a little dip
to dwindle.
and dry,
beneath
the bending elm.

once
there was a view
then
came progress
beauty
withdrew behind brick
now
I close my eyes
recall
scented memories
horns
disturb my reverie
time
marches on.

The thinnest sheet of glass,
its fragile nature legend,
yet separates whole worlds,
of sounds and airs unopened.

On either side is envy,
times fair of fresh adventure,
times foul of sheltered comfort,
yet both equal indenture.

Fling open coward glass,
Face worlds as we're designed,
Share fair and foul as life,
Take each soul as we find.

locked behind a glass prison
a whore for the job I hate
perhaps death is prefered
or at least a hospital stay
anything but this
torture day after day
drowning in a paper pool
spinning lifelessly
atop a whirling desk chair.

Is this life’s end
with lanes on a road
so clearly marked
the painted paths,
divergence bowed,
the car soon parked?

But, where?

That
view
will not
change at all.
It will remain fixed:
an artifact of our collapse.
Your reflection waits,
frozen in glass
lonely
for
love.

Somebody else’s tragedy goes by
in a blur of whirring red-blue light.
A pause; we hold our breath,
pull over, wait
for our own grieving to become
once more
of utmost importance.

Spiraling over sirens, the thought of
what I’ve lost becomes once more
too loud to bear. This dark house, these
dying flowers that I could not save.
That blue sky meaning nothing from
this window.

Down below an ambulance
waits
for some other person’s tragedy
to make this
just another work-day.

futility

we're all quite busy
dying,
I'm not lying.
depending on what lane
you take,
will predict your fate;
following that line
of thinking,
look without blinking;
you'll see
that all roads
lead
to somewhere,
busy,
as we all are.

It'll take a while
but soon the window
will show a different
view of life.
Perhaps not pretty,
but above all -
only life.
Today, tomorrow,
who can tell?
I dwell behind the glass.
Gray thoughts spin
with wheels -away.
And like the cars
I long to stray.

we are racing on a highway
toward the setting sun
the rosy glare
pinks your cheeks
flip a coin
flip the car
many a rollover
was gambling
closing my eyes
I wait

A driving instructor once warned me,
be careful at unprotected intersections
I had no idea then
which road would
travel to my deception

Now I look down on it, mute
No way to warn the others

nine eleven
we are buried
inside pain so deep
dig us out and bury us
eleven car lights on
funeral procession
we go to dig us
nine feet
deep

Hustle.
Get there.
Don't slow down
to watch the trees
shiver in the wind.
Win the race.
follow the lines.
Don't look up
to see
the birds moving in unison
across cloud dappled skies.
Go with blinders on.
Focus on the goal.
Modern life.

The plaza, the truck,
the diner there.
I sit on this sill
listen to the radio
if she leaves it on.
Doesn't anyone think
that I would like a change
flowers get bored too!

i watch
as the world
passes
just outside
my safe place

out there is adventure
danger
sights, sounds, movement
unknown
people walking talking loving
life

i do not go out there
