I sent a story to a semi pro fledgling market over two months ago. There was little information about it on Duotrope at the time. Now the responses have started to be reported and I see there is a pretty high acceptance rate. Over fifty percent. That's high and to my mind implies standards are dodgy. Maybe I'm wrong there.

Anyway, I'm wondering, even if I am accepted there, (I could be one of the unlucky one in two) is there any point in being accepted, seeing as how the acceptance rate is so high? I don't know whether my heart would sink or rise if I saw an acceptance coming in from there now.

Also, I've checked the site periodically and it hasn't done anything in all that time. I'm wondering what they are doing with all those stories they're accepting.

So, basically, I'm wondering should I withdraw and start sending it out to some more respected markets. It has already got three, pro/semi pro rejections and is a difficult genre fit to define.

What would you do? To withdraw or not to withdraw, that is the question. It says not to query before 120 days also, so I can't even do that.

Also, if you think I should withdraw, how should I word that? Any ideas. :D

I would not withdraw the submission.

If it's a semi-pro, there's money involved and a legit publishing credit. If their acceptance rate is high - and they are new - it could be that they have solicited submissions from authors known to them so they would be able to fill their first two or three issues with decent material. I have had that happen to me several times - it's flattering and sometimes very lucrative!

What they may be doing with all the stories they are accepting is fitting them properly into several well-thought-out issues. 120 days is about right for a start-up.

I would not withdraw either. In fact, I think the same market has one of my stories in the slush right now. :D

Geez...not only don't withdraw, but send me the name of this publication so I can send in, too! :D

Seriously, I'm with Kate and Sid...if they're paying semi-pro, that's a great credit. And they're not taking 100%. And even if they are, um, if they're paying semi-pro...
