I.D. as a verb?
So far, no onehad I.D.’d the girl.
So far, no onehad IDed the girl.

I guess I could just use identified, but this is driving me nuts!

Wouldn't it be short for identified so IDed
It's not identifie would

I may be wrong but though the first looks wrong I think it is more correct.

I didn't think about this -- I just let my fingers type. And they said:

So far no one had ID'd the girl.

I would write it as ID'd, but if it was really driving me nuts, I'd use identified.

Why make myself crazy?

That's okay, Wendy. I was going to go with Eye Deed. I've always seen it ID'd. I've never seen IDed. But you know who would probably know this for sure is a screenwriter. They use that term in police shows all the time.

I cast my vote with using ID'd and letting the editor correct it if he/she has a better idea. IDa? (Sorry, couldn't resist. It's not often I get to do a visual pun.)

I deed not know this would be so tricky. :)

I write ID'd and always wonder if it's correct, but the survey seems to say yes. I never put the periods in anymore (TV, USA, etc) since it's annoying to type and something easy enough to change if a publisher/editor insists.
