I know there's been some discussion on the ideal place to start a narrative, but I wondered if I could ask your opinions on this issue? My idea for the book (my NaNo one in fact) is that it involves the aftermath of a more traditional 'war between good and evil' plot. It's all about what happens after the evil Dark Lord is defeated and follows one of the people who was on the losing side.
My problem is, where to jump into the story. In my original draft I started with my MC's trial, after which he heads off into all his marvellous adventures
In this I revealed details of what had happened gradually as the story went on.
Since it's a made up world and obviously readers have no foreknowledge of what's went on in this war, in the rewrite I decided to start a little earlier and show the last battle, when my MC is actually captured.
Thing is, I really want to go back to the original version and starting point as I preferred it, but I don't know if it'd be confusing, to say all this stuff has gone on but not to actually show any of it, if you see what I mean?
