shh... I'm thinking...
I'm a curious creature by nature. Seeing many folks make mention of the fact that they've written mulitple novels, I'm wondering how many they've actually put out.

How many have you fully completed, start to finish?

How many have been deemed unworthy (by you or someone else) and placed on a shelf somewhere in favor of a new idea?

...I've had a few ideas over the last several years, only one of which has actually made it past a short summary on paper. My current WIP is it.

I've written three altogether. Novel #1 is incomplete and firmly trunked forever. Novel #2 has some possible flaws, but is complete and I'm still querying it. Novel #3 is complete and in draft #2 status, almost ready for beta and then querying.

11. Should finish 12 by the end of the month, 13 in November, and 14, maybe 15, by the end of the year.

One's on the shelf gathering dust, one's waltzing around, and a third is in the pipeline.

Five gazillion...

Okay, maybe not, but it feels like it sometimes! Eleven completed (two of them burned mercilessly), one almost completed, one to be completed for NaNo, three or four started and waiting for me to get back to them, two more to round out a series of six, and enough ideas to keep me busy writing novels until 4029 (if only I could figure out how to live that long, I'd be golden :D)

Completed five, published two (I don't consider the others dead--they're just resting or waiting their turn). Working on another right now, with two more WIPs temporarily shelved.

one which will NEVER see the light of day; I wrote it when I was twenty and it's awful. It's about 250 pages.

I'm twenty-seven now and I'm working on one that I hope to shop to agents when it's through. It's going to be about 300-320 pages. (My reason for such a long stretch of time was school. It's really hard to write when you're studying all the time.)

As far as trashing... I wrote about 40 pages of a YA novel and trashed it because it was going nowhere and I wasn't that into it.

I've put myself on a schedule now to write around six pages per day, so I hope that this will git'er done.

I've finished 2. One I wrote for a contest but it didn't win and, having re-read it, I can understand why. TRUNKED!!!

The other was so horrible I... forget it. I'm rewriting it right now. I'm almost 40,000 words into it :) and so proud of myself. I usually get blocked at about 20-30k words.

But... wow. This thread has made me feel dreadfully unproductive.

I've written three. Southern Shoulders was the first, and I finished it when I was 20. I don't think I even still have a copy of it anywhere and that's a good thing. I still like the idea, and one of these days, I'll rewrite it because I'm a better writer than I was then. My next one was Ships That Don't Come In. I finished it when I was 24. The story in it is good, too, but I don't think it's publishable.

My last one is Psychic Straits, and I'm querying it now. I do think it's publishable.

I've completely finished two. The first got me my agent but didn't sell. The second was published. I'm finished a draft of the third and am hoping I'll be able to publish it as well.

Two finished, one in progress. The first, I'm told, is a bit "disturbing" for the world-at-large. The second is just about ready for querying. The third is underway, about 5K, and better than the first two combined.

Not that that's saying much... :)

My first novel was turned down by some of the biggest names in the publishing industry. I'm proud of the list of rejections. You can download it for free as an ebook at my website. Numbers 2, 3, and 4 are available in stores and online. See my signature for info. Number 5 is 50% done and scheduled for release in October 08.

Um, five total I think.

One is a historical romance that will be shelved until I publish other stuff. It's not "marketable" but I'm hoping once I establish a name, I can spruce it up a bit and put it out.

Two is complete but in first draft form. It is even more unmarketable, so I haven't even tried. It's one of those things you'd like if you read it, but any jacket blurb would sound utterly boring.

Three is a science fiction epic I intend to rewrite when I get around to it. I have a complete first draft but I am so dissatisfied with it that I want to start over.

Four is my contemporary quirky romance. I have a full at an agent right now. If she doesn't want it then it will be undergoing some revision before I try sending it out again.

Five is the novel I am currently querying... see stats in sig. Fifth time's the charm?

Numbers 1,2,3, and 4, in my signature below. Number 5 is complete and being shopped. Number 6 is in progress. Number 7 is in the research stage.

None trunked (yet).

Two completed.
Currently in the process of polishing one of the two so I can search for an agent in 2008.

ETA: I wrote one in high school, but I didn't count it. I've written two I was serious about as an adult.
