Oh ya, the GunKata, as blah as it sounds, was a treat. And as much as I enjoyed the theatrics of the Matrix, this was more grounded and brutal. I grew up with a Karate instructor for a step-dad so I had my fair share of "let me show this cool move" and Bruce Lee movies until I could quote them. I scrutinize about every fight scene I see in a movie and feel slighted. With the exception of Jackie Chan flicks, and damn they are fun to watch, most fights just don't attract my attention. Equillibrium renewed my faith in a Western movie having wild and brilliant fights. Oh, and the movie was well acted too (almost forgot to throw that in).
There was such a great group of actors, from Bale to Diggs, Sean Bean, and the guy from Prison Break (the resistance leader) that I've seen in multiple movies and TV shows. Can't remember his name but he always puts out a solid performance. Talking about the movie is making me wish I had a copy in the house. I know what I'm doing the next time I go to town.
