I only wish. I even have that week off, and it's not too far from me.

I'm going. I'll be bathing at least once per day, eating at least twice, and sleeping more than three hours per day.

Hmm . . . well, for those of you that are going, if you'll be there Thursday night, a few authors have gotten together to throw a party called Zombies Need Brains. It's just a get together, although our books will be available from Flights of Fantasy. We'll have lots and lots of alcohol, snacks, gourmet cookies, chocolate, and doorprizes. We don't know the room yet, but there will be plenty of flyers and postcards around which will have the room number on it. It starts after the ice cream social, so probably around 10pm. The authors involved are:

Patricia Bray
S.C. Butler
Barbara Campbell
Jennifer Dunne
C.E. Murphy
Joshua Palmatier (me)

Feel free to spread the word about the party. And it isn't a costume party or anything, but feel free to come as a zombie. We do intend to have brains as well . . . gummie brains and marshmallow brains. *grin*

The Zombies Eats Brains Party was officially awesome. It was one of the best parties at the convention. Now I have me a signed copy of "The Skewed Throne" to read as soon as I finish that personalized, signed copy of "Ink" by Hal Duncan (May I just say that Hal Duncan is one of the coolest human beings on the planet, and if you ever get a chance to meet him do it. If you ever get a chance to drink with him, pack an extra liver, but do that, too.)

The Abyss and Apex party was pretty fun, but I'm sorry Deirdre, you guys didn't have enough booze to keep me around too long. The food there was really good, and it was quite a contrast to the boilermaker Tor party.

George RR Martin's launch party was the BEST party. Best mixed drinks (The blue stuff!), best crowd-size/coolness ratio, and they were the only folks who figured out how to open the windows so they had the only truly comfortable-temperature of any party all weekend.

The Tor Party was awesome and impressive with VIPs, but it was also a humid sweatbox.

So, um, who did you guys get to meet. I knew the Con was going to be awesome when I was waiting for the bus with Ted Chiang and Hal Duncan and another short story writer whose name escapes me, but she's been in some wicked anthologies and I feel like a nargle for forgetting her! Then, the first time I was in the Con Suite, I met L. E. Modesitt. Then, I was walking around the dealer room and...

I could make a list as long as my arm of all the awesome writers that I met this weekend. I was in such famous-person-overload that when I met James Patrick Kelly I couldn't place him, and I had to ask him why I knew his name (a.k.a. most embarrassing moment of the con...).

It was like walking into a room full of all of your heroes in a situation where you are expected to introduce yourself and talk about their writing and your own.

I wish the dealers room was my local bookstore. Every time I walked through that amazing room, it had a ten dollar minimum. Did you guys see the antique issues of "Weird Tales"!? If only I had a spare 150 bucks!

I'll stop making Peedee jealous now. Anybody got pictures?

Also, did everybody get home safe?

Sharon had quite a trip to make, among many others.

I made it home uneventfully -- well, except that I couldn't raise my voice above a whisper, had to pantomime all my farewells and let my husband do the talking for me (even more than usual!).

WFC was amazing. Shared an elevator with Charles Vess, drank the most delicious homemade orange liqueur, attended three panels over the course of four days, filled half our suitcase with books, and had dinner with a certain up-and-coming author who has a novel out in February. :D (Nice ARC!)

I also got some very lovely contributor's copies for a very lovely anthology.

Unfortunately, I think badducky and Deirdre were the only AWers I met at the con. Next time I will endeavor to be healthier!

You met two more, Sharon.

You met Jeff Palmentier a.k.a. jpsorrow, (I was there when you did), and you met DianaRowland (reddhead and again, I was there when you did).

And, Theresa of the tasty orange liquor has swung through once in a blue moon, so she totally counts.
