I wouldn't ditch any projects based on one rash comment. Time and again, when someone has posed the question "What is hot in fiction?" the answer is always "any subject done well."

Besides, women buy half of the movie tickets. They are likely to want to see movies that have interesting women in them. Robinov will have to spin his way out of this one, because it isn't likely to sit well with his peers and public.

Then you would think movies with women in lead roles would do better at the box office. But they seldom do, so apparently many of the women who buy tickets don't like them, either.

He was, of course, talking about action/dramatic movies with women in the lead, not romance/comedy movies.

He may catch some flak about this, but he shouldn't. It's real simple. If the public wants women leads in such movies, then rather than jumping on this statement, they need to start buying more tickets to such movies.

The public votes with its money, not with political correctness.

Granted, Catwoman did terrible. But hey! So did Superman Returns!

Maybe it's not the WOMEN but simply the crappy vehicle they're put into. So WB should remember, when they're pointing a finger at the women, 3 fingers are pointing back at them.

Or maybe they could make some interesting movies with female leads. Whichever. They did that once with Alien, and it turned out pretty cool. If a movie does badly, it isn't necessarily because of the gender of the lead.

Kill Bill did okay too. And even though Lara Croft sucked, it must have done well enough to warrant a sequel. Resident Evil - Extinction is still in the top 10 movies despite having been out for several weeks (and the fact they have made 3, count 'em, 3 of these movies is directly linked to its star).

I think the thing is there are simply fewer movies made with women as the lead which makes the chances of getting one as a top earner less. Tons and tons of guy as lead movies flop, but we don't refer to them as guy as lead movies, we refer to them simply as movies.

And yes, Chicago may have been a musical, but it did win best picture.

(oh and top grossing movie of all time, Titanic. It may have had two leads, but the film is actually narrated by the older version of the Kate Winslet character. It is her story really. Not saying the movie is any good . . . just pointing out another fact . . .)

His logic is faulty and overgeneralized to me. And the box office moves in cycles for all genres and all stars. I can't think of a single star, male or female, that hasn't had a flop.

What's he going to do when Denzel has a flop on his watch?

OOW! What about the Lassie franchise? Tons of movies and TV shows with a female lead (or should that be female leash?).

Always lots of action (generally related to some kid falling down some hole of some kind).

Granted the star had some gender-identity issues, but hey, can't argue with box-office, baby!
