Appropriate markets for an idea

Children's writers:

One of the kids appearing on the TV show "Kid Nation" is in my church, and his parents are friends of mine. I would love to interview him (he's 10 or 11)and do an article, but can't seem to find any magazines in my SCBWI list that seem to be a good match. I could do it from the angle of his experience in general, or I could slant it towards how he was able to share his testimony as a believer. I suppose it could also go in a general magazine. (Is Grit still around?)

Any suggestions you have would be most appreciated. I think many folks would enjoy reading about this unique experience.

Maybe an entertainment/TV magazine? Sorry, I have no experience with mags, but I think this could go a lot of places. Also maybe a local paper, but that wouldn't pay great.

As you mentioned yourself, you could write this article from a few different angles, thereby getting more than one article tailored to different magazines, all from the same research/interview.

Why not send out some queries?

One you might try is Boy's Life... their writers' guidelines are here... http://www.boyslife.org/about/contributors/writers.pdf Maybe query them for an article for their Entertainment Department.

And what about Boys' Quest?

Then you could try the various Sunday School papers with a query tailored to their needs.

Who knows, you may find that you end up with several different magazines interested in articles.
