I can't say either way really. The camera movement--I couldn't adjust to it...

This thread has reminded me that I've never seen it.

Hmmm.. maybe I'll wait to see the final poll results to decide whether I should remedy that situation or not.

It was a good movie to watch once. It was a unique idea, both from a film and marketing standpoint. The end was creepy and affecting. Not one I'd watch again (partly because the camera movements made me seasick the first time around), but yes, good. Not great, though.

I found it unremittingly boring and unconvincing. The only part I liked was the very beginning, with the documentary-type stuff. After that it was "omg we're lost in the woods aieeee! teeth!" *snore*

Oh hell no. This tripe was the worst thing to hit celluloid since The Swamp Thing. What the heck were those things in the bandana? Fingers? Lunch?

Loved it.

Had never seen anything like it before, or since. Genuinely affecting, genuinely scary.

Camerawork didn't bother me in the slightest.

And they were teeth in the bandana, wynter. ;)

"Oh my god! ROcks!!"

OMG, the only way there could be ROCKS is if the Blair Witch is coming to get us!

Did anyone see "The Last Broadcast"? It's another mockumentary about a group of people who die in the woods investigating the local legend of a supernatural entity. It came out a year before "The Blair Witch Project." At the time, the creators of "The Blair Witch Project" denied having seen "The Last Broadcast," but now, they apparently admit that they had.

The only mildly scary part of the movie was the ending, when she went around the corner and the guy was standing in the far side of the room not moving. The rest of the movie was incredibly boring to me.

It was an art project. For that it was good. As a production it didn't meet the bill. So, it is all in how you look at it.

Still, a lot of people liked it. You have to give the guy some credit for accomplishment. Talk about a low budget...And it was exactly what he wanted it to be; film footage from missing college students. That's all. It wasn't intended that we understand what happened. If you are expecting a movie you'll be disappointed.

I felt the unseen antagonist could have been some recluse moonshiners using the legend to scare the locals, since nothing 'witchy' ever happened. It sort of changes the feel of of the film if you think of it. But he wanted an unsolved mystery and that would have solved it.

The movie, on the whole, is kind of a bore, but it all leads to the ending, which I think is one of the creepiest endings in movies...

So... without the rest of the movie, the ending doesn't work.

Going by what other people had said about this film I expected the worst, but instead it felt atmospheric and authentic, and had lots of genuinely spooky moments. The deteriorating character relationships and rising panic felt real. It wasn't difficult to imagine myself there along with the characters, unable to find a way out of unmapped woods that seemed to go on forever -- and that's what a film is supposed to do.

I admit I enjoyed the movie, but I didn't get the ending. I just remember the girl was really freaked out about the guy and I'm not sure why.

Need to add - I watched this film at home, alone, on DVD. I don't think I would have enjoyed it half as much in a theatre.

I agree with Derek in that this isn't really a "story movie" but an atmospheric/role playing one -- imagine yourself in their situation and you get that dread and awful feeling. Probably makes a good RPG.

I've never heard of it, but now I'm curious. Have you seen it, Celia? How does it compare to TBWP?

I didn't like The Last Broadcast as much. I thought Blair Witch created a far more intensive sense of loss and encompassing fear. In terms of storytelling, I would say The Last Broadcast is more traditional than Blair Witch - it's more of a supernatural whodunnit, albeit presented in the less traditional, mockumentary format.

Incidentally, Avalos (director of The Last Broadcast) admits to freely copying design elements of, Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills - a factual documentary - for The Last Broadcast. Most seemingly original ideas tend to have overlapping spheres of influence, sometimes more apparently than others.

I agree that it was a good movie to watch once and the marketing was innovative.

And, as I am a documentary filmmaker who has gotten lost in the woods with a small crew, the lost-in-the-woods stuff was so convincing that I found myself reaching for my compass. Interestingly, I did a whole series on "Blair Witch-type" incidents and so I was pleased with the film on another level -- that my actual life (minus the murders) was fodder for entertainment. :)

I'm with Ray on this one, apart from the bit about the fillum being kinda boring. I'd say atmospheric.

I watched it at home, alone, in the dark...when my settee was facing the other way so I had my back to the door. Gave myself the shivers.

And yes, it's all worth it for that ending.

Ha! Me too (apart from the DVD; I watched it on Sky Movies).

It made me decide to move my furniture so I wouldn't be sitting with my back to the door while watching the tellybox again...

I think it was a good movie because there's nothing quite like it. It did what it set out to do. Scared the panties off me. A seriously creepy piece of work that builds the suspense almost imperceptibly, until you suddenly realize every hair on the back of your neck is on end and the next noise in the room is enough to send you leaping to the ceiling. The ending definitely had the "wow" factor.
