I understand that when an agent makes you an offer of representation, you should ask for a week or two to give other agents time to make up their minds. However, having multiple agents reading my full and not having an offer in hand, I'm wondering if I've been too forthright when sending out my full. Should I tell them in the cover letter with the full that another agent has my full?
The reason I ask is my submission process was going great guns with a good agent. She asked for a partial quickly, turned the relatively large partial request around in a few weeks, but before she asked for a full, another agent asked for a full. When she did ask for the full, I sent it to her, but also (as a courtesy) told her about the other agent with the full. It's now been almost 3 months since then and if she didn't have such a good reputation for being speedy, I wouldn't be worried. But now I'm wondering if I gave her too much info and she stuck me on the bottom of the pile since she may feel she'd be reading it for naught. She doesn't have a policy of exclusivity.
I'm wondering now if I should just not mention other agents until I get an offer, just because "another agent has a full, too" may not be info the agent even cares about....or worse, a reason for her to just wait and see if the other agent makes an offer before bothering to read. Part of me, though, thinks it's only fair and if I were an agent, I'd want that courtesy.
