So anyone else catch the premiere last night?

It took me about twenty minutes to full intergrate into the fairy tale atmosphere of the show, but once I did, I was caught. The visuals are very pretty. The leads are endearing and have genuine chemistry. Swoosie Kurtz and Ellen Greene are spot-on as a pair of shut-in, nutty aunts.

My only real concern is that the "gimmick" is going to wear thin quickly. I mean, I love shows that tease you with the sexual chemistry between the leads (Bones, I mean you!), but at least you know that there is the potential for....well, something. With this show, there isn't even potential. One touch and poof!

We watched it last night and really enjoyed it. It's from the same guy that wrote Wonderfalls and Dead Like Me, both of which we loved.

We'll definitely keep watching. You're right about the potential of the sexual chemistry fizzling out there. They're clearly setting it up, but there doesn't seem like there's anywhere for it to go.

Loved it, loved it, LOVED IT!

As for the sexual tension ... as long as the writing is good, they should be able to do a lot. I hope they explore all the other areas of their relationship, show them truly falling deeply in love. They could also get some good laughs out of them looking for ways to 'touch', such as kissing through a sheet of saran wrap and so on. I'm crossing my fingers they are as creative in this area as they are in all the other aspects of the show.

I liked it, too, and see lots of potential for it. I loved how he petted his dog with a back scratcher. :D

That was adorable. I liked the show, I also enjoyed the fantasy-likeness it had. I loved the narrator.

Wayell.... last Sunday they aired all the shows new on ABC back to back, so I got to watch replays of Dirty Sexy Money and Big Shots on E Entertainment Network. I'm hoping they do the same this Sunday cause I missed both and maybe they'll run PD as well. I was distracted for a third of the show so I'd like to catch it again.

It's real cute, has potential.

I enjoyed this but didn't love it -- gorgeous as the cinematography was, and as appealling as the leads are (stars in the making), I felt like PD was sometimes cute at the expense of real emotion. For instance, it felt a little empty to me that Chuck had virtually no reaction to the fact that she'd been murdered. And if it was so important that Chuck finally asked one of the dead his last wishes/words, then why didn't we get to hear the guy answer? Stuff like this made me feel like the show kept me on the surface, rather than letting me in.

On the other hand, that was just the pilot -- maybe the deeper emotions will come to the fore in time. The cast is talented and likeable, and it's definitely original, so I'll be sticking with it for now.

Not to get cynical already with a brand new show that I quite enjoyed, but I wonder how long it will be before we get the "very special episode" where 1) Ned accidentally kills his dog, or 2) Chi McBride's investigator character is killed and Ned must decide to keep him alive or let him stay dead.

November sweeps?

I liked it - but I've heard that Barry Sonnenfeld has been barred from directing any more episodes because it costs too much to shoot it with all the brilliant colors.

Still, I love the concept - I need a little more time to get to like the characters, but I'm willing to watch again :)

I agree with the OP... Nice, but I didn't see a great future in it.

For instance, it felt a little empty to me that Chuck had virtually no reaction to the fact that she'd been murdered.

Did you notice how she had virtually no reaction to being dead when she first found out, it was like - I was expecting some sort of "what! I'm not dead! you didnt! I'm not! I didn't!" - but nothing. No denial at all. Just a smile.

Oh well.

I thought it was adorable, and fell in love with the cinematography. The lush colors and fairytale atmosphere, along with the witty writing, swept me in immediately.

I liked it pretty well, but didn't he rescue the dog before he figured out how it all works? Wouldn't he have touched the dog again before that????

I think I'm just grouchy this year or something, b/c I wanted to like this one, really wanted to like it, and mostly didn't. It seemed like it was trying too hard to be quirky, and it was just quirk for the sake of quirk and the voice-over went on too long. The repetitive names ("Boutique Travel Travel Boutique" and the like) were cute the first time or two, but after a while, not so much. And if they're going to name the town "heart of hearts," couldn't they spell it right?

Oh, but I did like one line: "I can hold my breath a long time."

JD, the grouch

I adored it to say the least. I'm one of those people that think television is essentially a rotting cess pool of badly written garbage, so me liking something (and on network television no less) is a big acheivment in my book. I have never seen a show like this, certainly better than all the terrible spin off shows the networks try and cram down our throats. And it is most certainly better than the gag inducing reality garbage.

It isn't perfect, but I think you people need to have a little faith in the writers. His powers are mysterious, even to him, who is to say there aren't more aspects to it that we don't know yet? They can go anywhere with this idea really. It isn't as restrictive as some people think.

Best of all, the show was unpredictable. With most shows I always know what will happen next. Not so much here.

Oh, and the name aren't just quirky for the sake of being quirky. The names, like almost everything in the show's depiction of the world, are symettrical. I'm curious as to if there is a reason for this.

I grinned the entire hour it was on.

I paused it at the first commercial break and added it to my Tivo season pass.

It will get cancelled. But I want to make sure I get every strange, delightful, quirky moment of it before it disappears to "Brilliant but Canelled."

There were waaay too many commercials, though. My husband got so annoyed, he started timing the intervals between commercials - it was something like 6 minutes between breaks.

I hope they change that real soon...

Oh, I know. ABC is absolutely horrible with commercials--the same thing happens with me when I watch "Desperate Housewives." Very annoying.
