Yes...I know...it's been done to death....

But I'm sitting here, guitar in hand, playing some Beatles songs and looking at their songbook.

It's f'ing mindblowing the songs that they have ownership over.

It's creativity and genius of a probably never to be duplicated nature.

The songs are so different and genius.

From "I am the Walrus" to "Here, There Everywhere...."

It's insane how great these guys are.

God bless ya, John, Paul, George and Ringo.

Even Ringo wrote better song than 98% of what's out there today.

Ringo!! The token wacky drummer.

Tooshay !

The Beatles, Rocked & :roll:ed everyone past - present & future. 'My Guitar Gently Weeps, my favorite. Didn't know until 2 years ago that this was George's baby. Always figured John (my personal fav) and Paul wrote everything Beatleish ! But each of them was a part of a body, the soul-heart-brain & spirit. Giving us the best life force of music possible. I's amazing how a song can make one cry, smile, laugh & pick up a nice shot of whisky to ease some of the madness we go through. Yea! to the Beatles and to all others out there who got enough nerve to accomplish their talents & my purpose for turning on the radio and buying c-d's. Well before this becomes a novel, lol, I better go.

The Beatles were the greatest pop band ever, imho.

Doesn't Michael Jackson currently have ownership over a huge portion of the Lennon-McCartney song list, via purchase in the 1980s, or something like that?

caw
Yup, though the lads wrote the songs, Michael Jackson owns the publishing rights. That's why you hear Beatles songs on commercials. Paul was always opposed to that, but there's nothing he can do so long as Jackson holds the rights.

I will never get tired of the Beatles. Man...they have some great songs in the vault. A lot of my favs are on the White album. I dug a groove so deep in that vinyl it stopped working.

My Mom is a huge Beatles fan, and she plays them ALL the time. Especially when I was little. I swear, until I was seven or eight, I didn't know there was other music. I really didn't know. And at that point I already knew every song by heart, including the crazy German versions of "She Loves You" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand."

Speaking as a crazy Beatles fan...see Across the Universe. Honestly. It's unbelievable.

I realized what geniuses they were when I first read their written music. Not easy stuff at all, yet it sounds so simple and clean when played.

I live in Washington D.C. :)

I've seen it twice already--once on September 22nd and once on the 29th.

It's unnaturally good, really. I'm seeing it again next weekend...and then maybe again the weekend after...

Ah, you're in one of the limited release cities.

And of course, even though it's now in wide release, my local cinema did NOT bring it in yet. sassafrassinsassafrassers.

The Beatles were my first love (though my mom will tell you I was singing "Brown Sugar" from the Stones at three) and I'm still blown away; my CD collection is top heavy with their work. Blackbird is one of my personal favorites as well as There Are Places In My Life and Fool on the Hill.

It's funny, I was at Paul McCartney's website this morning!

Hi

Its so strange that I love the Beatles, and now so many years later my (children love them) are these realy my kids? Or Earth intruders? lol.
My daughters favorite is Blackbird, My sons My Guitar Gently Weeps!
Its strange because my mother was listening alot back then to the Beatles & I didnt play them as much has she had, but yet my kids became fans. I guess true talent always plays through, or will say that they were ahead of their time, I dont know but if my grandchildren whever they are born, start listening-then maybe we've been brainwashed, joking! :)

I loved the Beatles as a kid. They were the happening band at the time. I waited with bated breath for each new album. I bought every teen music magazine that featured them. I remembered wearing one out reading all the lyrics to Abbey Road. I lived through the whole "Paul is dead" phenomenon and collected every magazine, Time, Life, Newsweek, et cetera that features a "PID" story. I have, still have, a Beatles biography book printed back then. I had all their albums.

Now I still have some vinyl albums, Abbey Road, Yellow Sub, the White Album, Sgt. Pepper's, but only have Abbey Road on CD, and although I don't turn off a Beatles song, I don't go out of my way to seek them out any longer.

Is the title you're thinking of "In My Life?" It starts of with "There are places I'll remember all my life..." Oh, geez, I think I can recall every word of it, like so many other Beatles (and Motown, and other '60's and '70's) songs...

Ahh, In My Life! I love that one, too. For my sister's graduation my chorus sung it a capella in like four part harmony...it was sweet.

Last Christmas, I got a copy of the Concert for George DVD. One disc has the show produced for TV; the other disc has the concert as it happened. I'm watching/listening now, again.

It's magic; lump-in-the-throat stuff all the way through.
