12k words shy of my goal but...

OMG!!! My first ever completed first draft!

:hooray: :e2thud:

Now what was that next part? Revisions? Editing? ... You know, for now I'll just be happy about "the end." LOL!

How long should I let it sit?

<runs around tossing shurikens in the air like confetti>

I finished! I finished! Woo!

O.O

Well...for starters...don't kill your future readers. ^^

Congrats!!
I've heard you usually let it sit for like a month or something.
But... I'm not sure.

Still... Awesome!!!

 Yay for you, that's awesome! :partyguy: :TheWave:

I'd say leave it for at least a few days. I do a few weeks, myself. And go have a martini, or a big fudge sundae...You deserve to celebrate. :D

CONGRATULATIONS SASSEE!!!!! I'm super happy for you. Shurikens like confetti completely rocks.. LOL

Definitely take a couple days to bask in the glow of completedness (I'm making up my own words.. LOL) because really the fresher your eyes are the better off for your editing it'll be.. :D

Congratulations, Sassee!!! It's a great feeling, isn't it?

Now, if I could get to the end of rewrites...which have now officially taken seven times as long as my first draft...

That's so cool! Congratulations!

My previous experience has been that it needs to sit long enough that you can't quote from it anymore. Maybe that process speeds up if you write other stuff in between, can't really say. But at least one month, I would think.

Doesn't Uncle Jim recommend at least three months as optimal?

I believe the point of a time frame is to give it enough time sitting that you can re-read it with fresh eyes.

I'm planning to print a full copy of mine as soon as it is done, and put it in the safe. It will serve as a back-up copy in case something dreadful happens to my computer, then be my reading/marking copy.

I have no idea how to celebrate or congratulate another on completing a draft... mainly since I've never done it. *snivel*

On the other hand...

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! Go, Sassee, go! Go, Sassee, go!

Congrats!!!

Put it away and get working on something else engrossing ASAP. If you can leave it alone for months, I'd recommend it.

Stephen King recommends a minimum of six weeks, if I recall, but he's a fast kinda guy.

Well, some people edit right away. I've done that before. But I do like to let my cook for about a month while I work on another project. Then I return with fresh eyes.

eta: And congrats too! Finishing is fun.
