Let's be generous. Give others your opening lines (no wrapping required) they can use in their own work. Be giving.

Here's one:

Tired and groggy, Rebecca sipped her coffee and contemplated how to kill her husband that morning.

Give. Give. Give. It does the soul good.

Kareal glanced up at the sky again to see the clouds literally dissolving away into thin strips of vapor. The familiar blue skies gradually turned into an ominous green hue. This isn’t a meteor.

Larry wasn't sure how the Yak got there, but the lace bra was a nice touch.

Sort of a re-write of my opening line, to make it a little more broad.

When they threw me out, the only thing I got to keep was my name.

Two lines;

The run in my nylons and coffee stain on my shirt where my sacrifices to the gods of getting to my meeting on time, but as I've learned, bad days tend to get worse. It got much worse.

The minute I opened that cupboard and found a head, torso, three feet and a hand, I knew something wasn't adding up.

The eyes were open, but the body on the bottom of the pool showed no other signs of life.

:) Nobody else's opening line would fit my WIP...I bet the same is true of everyone else, for that matter.

Hey cranky...I could take one of these opening lines and crank out a novel from it in a couple of weeks. Then would the creator of the line still be so giving?

Sweetie pie, if you can use a yak with a black lace bra, you're welcome to it.

I'll change mine to a duckbilled platypus.

You're welcome to use mine...I doubt you'd keep it, though. You'd end up finding something you liked better, I bet.

ETA: We'd still end up with a different book anyway. :)

Absolutely. Feel free to use, and do post your work in SYW!

I may use one of these opening lines, too. They are great.

I'm still trying to figure out how to use a yak in a black lace bra...

Behind you!
“They’ll sell you, all right. And work you, and starve you, and beat you, and do what they will with you, until you’re dead.” The hag looked Maryn up and down with the boldness of a sailor. “And maybe after, too.”

Maryn, who has not yet named the character

I can think of a few unthinkable things... There you go, a book idea:

101 ways to use a yak in a black lace bra...

Guaranteed instant best seller.

You want a percentage? :tongue

Here's another line (since, as you can see, I'm feeling quite generous today):

The kamikaze run of the boy on his bicycle ended up with me in the hospital, but the kid walked away whistling.

Clouds explode, twisting and expanding from the blue sky, immediately casting a shadow over the earth beneath their ominous canopy.

I am still trying to think of a better term than explode, to describe the instant formation of clouds in the sky. Hmmm...
