Hello all! Im pretty new here and excited to be about all of this.

I just had a question as to how many chapters do you write a day?

Right now, Im going for two a day because I fear Ill burn myself out. In college I had gotten to 500 pages but I sadly dropped the book because it was Christian Horror and my writings....well.....were somewhat graphic. lol!

Also, I am writing in a journal. You know, character background information, chapter synposis, timelines, plot progression etc.

Any successful authors have any advice for a non-published first time writer?

I'm laughing at myself--some days I get maybe 3 paragraphs written! Alas, blame the necessities of work and sleep.

Um...I write Christian Horror!

I'm obviously going to be a bad influence here--I'll quietly slither away to my Den of Frights. :D

Advice? Don't give up! And remember Whose hands it's all in.

CHAPTERS???

Unless they are verry short, it takes 2-3 days for a single chapter if I'm cooking. Longer if I'm not. (but I do edit as I go - yeah, yeah, The Unseen, Unbending, Unknowing Rulegivers say never do this, they can bite my... uh, I mean I will bite my tongue on that ;))

Advice: Write to learn what you do well and how you best accomplish it.
Writing is a craft - do what works to get the job done. I know people who write in long, manic drives then may take months editing and others who write a book longhand then key it in and edit as they do and people who take a year to write 300 pages and some who....

I don't write every day, but I do re-read and edit what I've written pretty much every day. When I do write, it's usually 1k words on a weeknight or 3-4k words on a weekend. I also spend alot of time fleshing out my outline and doing research.

There's a great forum called "Learn Writing with Uncle Jim" that you should check out. It's chock full of great advice for aspiring authors.

When I'm writing new copy, I write about 500-800 words/hour. Since I write one hour per day, that's about 1/3 to 1/4 of a chapter. Saturdays, I'll write for 4 hours and that's about a chapter or so. Unfortunately, right now I'm re-writing so it's tough to tell how much I'm accomplishing in words/hour because I'm deleting, re-writing, re-deleting, etc.

You have to measure words not chapters. I've seen two paragraph chapters. I know you're supposed to have a daily goal and keep your butt in the seat until you get there. That's never worked for me. I shoot for 1,500 words per day. 1500 words x 60 writing days = a book. Sometimes I exceed it and sometimes I don't. Just the way it goes.

I tend to do a preliminary polish as I write, this probably slows me down, but it gives me better first drafts.
