Did we talk about this before? If so, go ahead and shoot me :D

I was surprised by a TV show this weekend - one that I had previously written off as stupid and/or not worth my time. I gave it a second look on Saturday because my morning plans had been ruined and I found myself with two hours to kill and nothing to do (write? who, me?).

Anyway, I was oddly surprised to find this program I had written off actually interested me. Enough to go ahead and set the TiVo for a season pass. I suppose I have Scarlet Peaches to thank for it - a confusing piece of stupidity by me about an accent let to a strange confusion about nationalities and . . . Okay, short story is: Torchwood.

I find myself liking it.

This happend with The Dresden Files, too. I thought it was pathetic - then I caught one full episode and got hooked (which is why it was canned, I'm sure.)

Any movies or TV shows out there surprise you? Ones you expected you'd hate and ended up loving. OR ones you expected to really enjoy but they stank to high heaven on a pogo stick?

You know, I thought I was going to hate The O.C. - on Fox. Then I caught the second episode and was hooked. I even own the box set.

I'm jumping ahead...

I'm hoping to enjoy Pushing Up Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money and Carpoolers. I'll let you know if I'm disappointed.

I absolutely hated the Babylon 5 pilot movie. Bad acting and stiff dialog. Absolute hate!

Fast forward a few years, DH sits me down in front of a B5 marathon and I was hooked.

Still hate the pilot though.

The West Wing. I thought a TV show about politics and the White House staff had to be the most boring, worthless pile of crud ever aired. I ignored the first season, was intrigued by a summer of "Who Got Shot?" ads, and settled in to watch the season two premiere. Hooked, hooked, and hooked.

Ditto. Little did I know.

Friend who likes all the shows I do: Hey, I watched the premiere of this new show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was really good!
Me: Really? Buffy? Are you kidding?
Friend: Trust me.

I checked out the encore of the pilot & was hooked.

(My parents that same day gave me the same kind of look when I told them that I was going to watch the show. They sent me to watch it in my room. The next week, I come down during a commercial & they're watching it too & hooked).

Double ditto here. I was going from what I remembered of the movie and shook my head that a series even got made. Then I caught the season two eps just after Angel went all Angelus. And watched every episode after. My mom caught 'Hush' (my all-time favorite ep) a few times it was on, and watched it with me. One of those 'every time I watch this, I see this episodes' kind of thing. So I told her, "Well, watch tomorrows ep with me."

She did. She now owns seasons one and two on DVD.

I'm right there with you on Torchwood. I was terribly disappointed after the first episode but kept hearing great things about it from the UK so I decided to go take a sneak peek (I cheated by watching on VEOH) and was instantly hooked. It does get better (now that I've watched the entire first season) but I do think the Captain Jack on Torchwood is a little different from the Captain Jack on Dr. Who. It's a darker more gloom and doom Jack than the one I found so compelling in the Dr. Who episodes.

Another series I didn't like much in the beginning but eventually fell in love with was Firefly (and then it was cancelled, damn them all!). I wasn't able to sit through the first episode to pick up on all the subtelties but then watched a second episode the following week (hubby really liked it) and was hooked from that point on. I even purchased the entire series on DVD.

Come to think of it, when I first heard of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I thought it sounded pretty stupid too - then I gave it a try and really enjoyed it. With Torchwood - I had no knowledge of it before since I'm not a Dr. Who fan at all, so having no comparison, I'd have to say I like this version best.

For me, it was a case of my doing housework (a rare enough event) with the TV on as background. My ear kept being caught by this really good dialogue, and I thought, 'What is this programme?' Knock me down with a feather when I found out what it was.

I turned my sister on to 'Oz'. She thought it sounded un-entertaining and depressing. 'Would you like some fries with those words, Marcia?'

At The Hotel on CBC a year or so ago. I had no idea what it would be like, and fell for it hook, line and sinker minutes into the premiere. Of course, it got cancelled after something like half a dozen episodes or so.

"Oz" is another show that surprised me. I thought it sounded vulgar and depressing and couldn't imagine how they could keep interesting plots going about inmates. I only decided to watch it to feed my Christopher Meloni fetish after becoming hooked on L&O: SVU. I think I rented the first two disks of season one, just to try it out.

I now own all six seasons. :D

Firefly.

They showed the first half of the pilot episode first in the UK - and it didn't grab me. Then I saw the movie, went back and watched the rest of the series and realized my mistake.

I'm so ashamed.

I tried out one of the new fall comedies last night - that one with Kelsey Grammar and the lady from Everybody's Bored With Raymond. The previews seemed pretty funny, lighthearted, all that.

It sucked ! I lasted 15 minutes, and that's only because of the commercials and how long it took me to scroll around the choices and find something else.

So that was a surprise in the negative side. And, I've just read something that made me throw up a little in my throat - they're remaking Night Rider.
