Hi all! Patience is not my best virtue - I know this for a fact. I want to know how long an author should wait to hear from her agent after signing the agency contract.
I signed about ...I think 10 days ago and mailed it to my new agent. I'm still waiting to hear from her. I know the agency is legit ( it's well recommended on the preditors and editors site and there's no negative background info). I just don't know what happens now...does she contact me? Do I contact her and if so what do I say?

Congrats!

Now that you've signed, they officially work for you--so, while being courteous and respectful of their time, you shouldn't hesitate to call or email.

I agree with Jamie. I definitely think that at the very least you can drop an email saying how excited you are and that you put the contract in the mail on such and such date. That's a good way to initiate a conversation.

Right after I signed (uh, a few days ago) I didn't know what to do so I emailed my agent and told him to let me know if I should be doing anything.

I know you don't want to be the nagging client all agents talk about dreading, but you do want to make sure you're getting what you need out of the relationship. That's my take on it at least. And if I were you I'd want to know when they planned on subbing the book and what has to be done before that :)

In the meantime -- congrats on getting an agent!!

Thanks people!!

Believe it or not I am working on my next project..on chapter 2 actually (you guys would have known that had you peeked at my blog:cry: - :D). I am also busy studying for a test on Oct. 19th and yet...alas, there is no peace for my brain.
But your comments did help. ;) At least I know this is the norm - I can be paranoid at times and I was wondering if she changed her mind. I read a thread on here about agents who silently drop their clients. :D
Anyway, thanks again!! I will probably wait until monday then email her and ask if she received the contract.
You guys are the BESTEST!!!

They're all wrong, of course. *I* advise calling your agent every twenty minutes or so. Call them at night, if you need to. Then you can both relax and share feelings. It's essential.

Either that or she'd think you were so eccentric you must be brilliant.

Either that or Pete was just using his legendary sense of humor.

Be patient you will hear.
