I was a member at the time, but I must have missed whatever the momentous occasion was.

Actually, it was a computer glitch, and I've always wondered why that stat remains.

It was also my 37th wedding anniversary--and I've also wondered why that stat remains.

Ask Chunky. (not about my anniversary; the other one.)

Cheering you all on!
Could it be around the time that AW went down? Maybe it came back that day?

I don't know. Let me go check my blog. (aren't these handy for just such important questions?)

...wanders off... .... ...

Ah, I see that I sold the short story "Everyone Gets Saved in the End. Everyone." to The Truth Magazine that day. Very good day. No wonder so many people were around. They wanted to celebrate.

Every time I go to log off I see this line under active users:

Most users ever on line was 2,207, 05-18-2006 at 12:40 PM.

What happened that brought everyone here on that day at that time?

It had to do with a programming error when someone was changing the length of time before it did something (I just blanked for the life of me). This relates to how long you can stay on one page before it marks all of the threads read when you click to a new page and stuff. It just kept racking up people, making it look like there was a monumental number of visitors.

yep. it was a glitch.
I remember that day. We saw how many people it said were on line and we all sorta felt like we were being watched on jumbotron.
Then they broke the news.

*it was fun while it lasted.*

I leave it because I dream of the day we make better numbers than that -- and it's legit.

There was a Chinese fire drill that went very very wrong.

ETA: Um...I wasn't here yet. I'm innocent.

Ahhh, the pain of that day. The scars. Someday, I will tell my grandchildren and they will all remember. A day. That will live. In infamy. The day we threw down and smote the ruin of Icanhascheezburger.com in the greatest internet gang war of them all.

a'course, they bounced back a little...

Better than the writing exercise Can You B.S. your way through this?

Hmmm. I figured it was the moment contest results were posted.
Don't take it off, it does cause you to think that AW can mobilize people better than most world leaders. Advertisers should flock to you.
