I relized last night that the MC in my book had no reason she’d be investigating crime let alone how t sol e one. So I came up with the idea that maybe she’s fascinated by *motive*. She wants to understand why people do what they do, has gotten good at that.
(There’s background reason for it too.)
I don’t know if it’s over done or not as I’m new to this genre.

Of course this stories set 3000 years ago but I don’t think the human minds changed that much. Ummmmm the question becomes how much Psychology do I need to know? I can’t afford to go take Phyc class.
And Dose she sound to much like Gregory House? J

Don't worry about similarity to House. The need to understand isn't the only thing that makes his character unique. It's more about saying what he's thinking, without regard for the feelings of others.

If you've got a plausible reason for your MC to want to understand motive, I don't believe you need to study psychology. Most motives for crime are disarmingly obvious: greed, jealousy, envy, revenge. Just the stuff we all think about but only a few act on.

Maryn, pleased to make your acquaintance (buy why?)

:) LOL. Thanks. Nice to meet you too.

I think the reasion is that her sister killed her self and they never fiugered out why, and she's over compasanting. It's not very creative, but at least its simple.
