Dancing the dance of life. somewhere.
I'm young, I'm a song writer and a fairly good singer. I want to start a band, how do I go about it?

Advice people?

Any good web sites in regards to this? (Don't suggest myspace, that got me nowhere.

If you live near any urban area, try craigslist. When I moved to San Francisco I didn't know anyone. I played at some jams, but it's hard to break into groups who have known each other for years.

So I answered some craigslist ads, and most of them were either terrible bands or bands playing stuff I didn't want to play. But then, one ad panned out. A drummer and keyboard player looking to start a new band. I joined up, we auditioned some others. Great people, good players, wanted to do all originals. Lots of fun. Check out our MySpace page.

other.
I know this sounds sexist, and I don't even know your gender, but...

don't start an all-girl band. It will all end in tears. Or maybe group therapy.

I'd focus on craigslist.

Post an ad about starting a band.

Mention the types of music you like and what type of musicians you are looking for.

Hope this advice works as good for you as it did when I responded to JLennonBall's eerily similiar post back in 1957.

1) Register at bandmix.
2) Go to the local guitar stores and put up a flier in the foyer saying you're looking to start a band and put details of what type of music you play and what skill level you're looking for. While you're there, look at all the other fliers and contact potential band members.
3) Hang around the music store and listen to people trying out instruments. If you like someone's style, talk to them and see if they'd be interested in jamming.

III has got it. Music stores should be plugged into the local scene.

Also check to see who's playing at the local clubs, dances, that sort of thing. When I was getting started, I made sure I went to every high school dance we had and talked to the players. We had local groups at our school all the time, and I ended up in bands with a number of them over the intervening years. I even ended up doing a gig at my high school while still a student there.
