ETA: Got a slew of beta readers in one day! Thanks everyone! For the moment I'm no longer looking for readers.

Former assassin Roger Kuznetsov has spent the last seven years trapped in a wheelchair, waiting to die. Then the return of his son and a chance meeting with a shy young woman force Roger to acknowledge that his life isn't over yet. Now he has a choice: to condemn himself to the isolation he deserves, or reach out to those who need him most. A man with so much blood on his hands doesn't merit a second chance at life... but if anything hurts more than Roger's self-inflicted purgatory, it's forgiveness.

Interested? I'm now on the third draft of my mainstream/contemporary novel, which currently rings in at 135K. Told from the alternating points of view of the two people closest to Roger, this character-driven story has elements of mystery, suspense, and romance.

I'm looking for a beta reader who can:

- Read with an eye for the "big picture." I'm not looking for anything detailed right now. I'm interested in knowing if my overall plot holds together and whether any scenes stick out as being weird or wrong. So no line-by-line edits necessary. :)

- Tell me if there's anything I can CUT!!!

- Tell me if anything is confusing or needs more explanation.

- Do it fairly quickly, say, before October.

And since this thing is quite long, you don't have to read the whole thing unless you actually want to. It would help me immensely if you would read until you DON'T want to keep reading "this stupid book," and then tell me where you stopped and why. ;)

I'd love to beta your work in return, whether you need it immediately or sometime in the future. I can do detailed edits on a smaller piece or a big-picture overview of something longer, or whatever else you need. Genres I like to read:

- Science fiction
- Some fantasy (not your average Tolkienesque dragons-wizards-adventurers stuff... sorry. :))
- Mainstream/contemporary
- Western
- Historic fiction
- Suspense/thriller (mainly psychological; nothing super gory)

FYI I generally don't like messy domestic stuff like people cheating on each other. Also don't favor drug culture, though drug use can be okay. And vampires gross me out. Can't think of anything else that really turns me off immediately though.

Hey~

I'd love to help, but I was just wondering what sort of rating it would have - basically, how much sex/violence/language is there in it?

Hi, Kathy! Thanks for your interest. I just put this up yesterday and I got a great response (wow!) so I am now kind of overwhelmed with beta-readers. I'm going to put a note up right now that I don't need any more (at least not right now). But anyway, for future reference...

If my novel were a movie, I would rate it R for adult themes, language, and violence, in that order. Shockingly, there's only one sex scene and it's not even remotely graphic.
