Let the games begin!

Er, continue...

I confess to letting the novel rest a bit--like dough, you know? You've got to let it set a bit, then punch it down to release the air pockets, and let it rise again. In the meantime, I've been working on some poetry and it's been deeply rewarding.

Seems like folks are doing great.

What did folks end up with for August, word-wise? How are you taking the measure? For me, I reviewed a lot of the poetry and other scribblings I've written over the past 10-15 years, did some rewriting. It's been a great exercise. And I started researching places to sub to--Sept is poetry sub month for me, and then back to the manuscript.

I'm back here too more, come fall--if you all will have me.

:Hug2:

:Sun::Sun::Sun::Sun::Sun:all round.

Write away,

Lisa

I'm in. The August thread has been great incentive. I'll add my August tally once I have a chance to count.

My ambitious goal is ... deep breath ... to finish the rough draft of my fantasy novel by October 15. I want to reach THE END before launching into NaNoWriMo in November.

My modest goal is at least one hand-written page per day.

So good luck, everyone, and :poke:.

:Sun:

ETA: With rounding, my August tally was about 80 hand-written pages. Thanks for the encouragement, everyone!
ETA2: Make that 85 pages. Another five pages tonight, and it's still August here for another hour. :D

In the two weeks since I started keeping track on August 18th, I've written 9.5K words and hit the minimum target of 500 per day every day in those 2 weeks. Hopefully I can keep it up all through September.

And if I don't keep it up, I can at least be happy coming to the sun-shiniest thread on the board.:Sun:

I'm here, sort of. Still haven't finished the cross-stitch project, but it's down to something like 3600 stitches (!), so hopefully soon! I also have a couple of short stories in various stages of incompleteness that I'd like to work on or get ready to sub as I can. And then get back to finishing the one novel and plotting another one. At that point I'll probably go back to the 500-word goal, but not til the cross-stitch is done and gone.

I started my first novel in August, so 9405 for the month. I hope to blow by that number in September.

I have to completely rework my beginning to bring it into accordance with established facts (it's a historical), so I ended up with minus words for August. But the new section should be much, much better and I'm actually excited at the prospect.

Bang zoom! Meowgirl and I are tearing up the first novel body, er, word count with our August start dates! I'm at 9,590 with today's 1,043 words.

Love this thread!

Let's see...I've got two WIP at the moment, both of which I began in August. One stands at 11K and the other at something close to that. I'll round it to 20K for the month.

Welcome back, Lisa. :Sun:

Love this thread!
Me too! :D

I'm not sure what my August total is, but I know it's dreary (2k? 3k tops?)...but I'll fix that this month.

Great going all -- here's to a wordy September! :Sun: And welcome home, Lisa. :)

Okay, got my 1,000 for today. Anything else is gravy.

It's September already! :tongue

Just kidding. I work nights, typically 1am to 8am and I am in the unique situation in that I can sit down and write for about 90% of that time, so I have no excuses and plenty of time to write. Tonight will start September for me as well.

I started my WIP 7 weeks ago and have about 38,000 words; based on the word count function. I had to take some time off so assuming all goes well, I decided to set my peak goal at 37,000 words for September. I will be willing to settle for 32,000, and I need a minimum of 27,000 to be satisfied with the month.

I like to set multiple goals for myself, so that I can "reach for the stars" as it were without being too unhappy if I don't quite get there. I know it is much more than 500 words a day, but as I said, I can work about 6 hours a day on my writing while at work, so I don't think my goals are too unreasonable.

Good luck to everyone who participates this month! I am sure I'll be in here a lot looking for motivation so I'll be rooting for us all!

Oh yeah, My birthday is September 30th, so I am hoping to reach the top goal as a birthday present to myself. :D

Okay, I put in about 7-8 hours of butt in chair time and finally finished with 2444 words!

I know I write slow. I like to think it means that I am writing excellent quality and I will therefore have to edit my first draft less.[sup]*[/sup]

I know it's about twice what I want to average to reach my top goal, so it is an excellent start to September. However, I finished a chapter that ended the second sub-book, so I am not even sure if I'll write much tomorrow. I may have to plot out the beginnings of the third sub-book. Who knows! Maybe I'll get inspired. ;)

Hope everyone starts off with a bang!

[sup]*[/sup]If everyone would please indulge this little fantasy of mine, I'll be happy to return the favor in kind!

Whee! Got the first chapter changed around and 526 new words so far. The new direction is going much smoother.

Seven pages so far today, and I think I'll be able to do a bit more later. It was weird. I had the scene I just finished planned in my head, but once I started writing, my characters decided to talk about something completely different.

Way to go, Doc & BardSkye!

Nice job BardSkye and TheIt! :hooray:

Sounds like a great day for you TheIt. I still can't believe you hand write your WIP. Very impresive work. :D

I did not sleep well today, so I don't know how much I'll get done. My brains a little mushy. I have been working on my new MC anyway, so I'll take the plotting day after starting out so well yesterday.

I may get in a few hundred words. If so, I'll just throw them on the next days work. ;)

We need more peeps in this thread. Must be the Labor Day weekend keping everyone busy. ;)

Have fun plotting, Doc.

I'm doing the hand writing based on how James A. Ritchie says he writes and also based on my own experience. I prefer composing by hand, but when I keep pausing to type in what I've written longhand, I lose forward momentum on the story and it makes it more difficult to revise. This way I'm forced to keep going, and I can't muck around with the beginning until I know the ending. I figure I'll have so much pent up energy from wanting to fix stuff, it'll make typing everything in a lot easier (and also my first revision). ;)

Oh wow, I'm seeing TONS of words on here! :Sun:

I'm embarrassed to say that my daily output has fallen to the double-digits (yes, I've been writing less than 100 words a day these past few days). :( Blame it on other life stuff intruding, I guess? Or insecurity about my WIP? All of the above?

Thanks, wyntermoon! Here's a :poke: to get you going.

I will be submitting my food essay to Tin House tomorrow, so that's progress too, right? It's a long shot, but you never know....
