Looks like the MTV folks have tabbed John Ashberry as the poet laureate of their new network.

Personally, I think Ashberry's work was FAR better in the '70s than it is today. For the last decade, his poems have read, for me, like in-jokes -- bad ones at that.

But it is an interesting pick, for sure.

How strange. Not knowing anything about MTV's new network (have they started a new one to play actual music videos? what happened to those?), I'm not sure what this is about. But any poets laureate being named must be good for poetry... right?

It seems an odd mix-a Poet Laureate and MTV. But he does have some interesting, but random, lines that could be amusing when flashed on screen. (I believe I'm understanding correctly how they will use his work).

Wow. I just read this and the link.

John Ashberry, white screen, ocean soundtrack, yeah baby, MTV Rocks! Who needs Headbanger's Ball when you can get a white screen and ocean soundtrack?!?!?!
