Is there a word for historical fiction that jumps from century to century connected through interrelated stories?

For example: The Covenant by James Michener is a fictionalized history of South Africa
so it starts in the 1400s or so and then the next chapter is 1500s
and the story that is in the 1500s is linked to the story in the 1400s
through blood or other coincidence.

Not too important, just would like to know.

Thanks

a saga usually means a story told over a long period of time.

Have you ever read Michener or Rutherfurd? It takes a LOOOOONNNGG time.
