I think there's a thread about this somewhere else, but I don't mind the repeat. I LOVE this. 
And I worked on the novel I just completed far longer than Brian. Some take 3 months, some 3 years, some...a decade *hangs head in shame*

Thanks for posting this. I had never seen it before. I've got two young children, so Family Guy might as well be Satan's Playhouse. The only time I turned it on, one of the characters kept sneaking off to the corner so he could...um...pleasure himself. And it wasn't the dog.

This bit doesn't even pay off until a later episode. Stewie starts the whole "That novel you've been working on" thing, and about 3 words into it, Brian decks him.

3 years? Try 8. That's how long I worked on my first novel.
Which never did find an agent or a publisher.
Only spent 5 weeks writing the first draft of novel #2, which has at least found an agent, even if it hasn't sold yet.
Wonder if that means anything....

I don't know about the show, but if you're a writer and you don't find this particular bit funny...God help you.
This is one of my favorite scenes from FG. A lot of it can be hit or miss. Stewie gets some great lines, though.
There's a line where he talks about being born, and it's something like "Since the day I escaped from your uterine bastille."
