I'm not sure what thread to post this in, so I thought I would shoot it here.

I imagine I'll be done with my WIP in a few months, and was considering doing some smoozing to try and get it published, possibly at some conventions if I can swing the expenses.

My question is: For an aspiring fantasy writer, if one had to pick ONE convention to attend, which one would it be?

Thanks for any advise. And forgive me if I posted this in the wrong spot.

(And try to ignore that I misspelled the title. Doh!)

Science fiction conventions are not the place to try to sell your book. Cons are for the fans. Oh, it's okay to network, but if your sole purpose is to sell your book, well, agents and publishers are pretty smart and they've seen it all. You won't get too far.

On the other hand, writers conferences/workshops often have agents and publishers on their faculty who are looking for new talent. That's a better option, IMO. I got my first request for a full manuscript at a writers workshop.
