Community at Large,

Shazbot! as they say in the old country.

Anyway, as a true newbie, I decided it's never too early to start my own thread. Writers seeks input on concept ;). I find my natural "voice" steers closer to the minimalism of Palahniuk. Not quite as disorienting but I favor impact over languid prose. And of course, not to say that I don't enjoy the occasional self-indulgentry (Firefox says that's note a word, pssh!), but I find that in my WIP, the stylistic tendencies of minimalism naturally revealed themselves.

First, is there a market for shorter/more visceral soft sci-fi? I know word counts for the typical Sci-Fi/Fantasy market can push the 100k limit. My current endeavor is looking to clock in at the 60k - 70k range and, as any good artist, I desire an audience, and want to ensure this thing is salable.

Opinions? Is there a market for this kind of stuff?

My slug line would be "A neo-noir romp through outerspace. Frank Miller and Chuck Palahniuk do Space Opera."

The first place I'd look, if I wuz you wuz over in paying markets, where wizards of the coast discoveries posted info on their open call.

the second thing i'd do, is go to my own bookshelf and figure which authors do kind of what i do. then, i'd open the book, look at their acknowledgment page and see who their agents and editors are.

but, that's only what i'd do.

best of luck, and welcome around town.

Congrats on the paying gig with WotC! I'll be sure to check out your work come Feb! I was actually looking at their open call for submissions. I intend to submit my WIP to them. Fingers are crossed!
