So, we all bought Serenity on DVD when it came out, right? Have you seen the promos on TV showing a new, 2-disc set with 60 minutes of added bonus footage?

Like . . . I have to buy it again!?

Freakin-A! What's with these companies, anyway? Put out a DVD, then wait a year or two, put it out again - with some added fluff - and we run out and buy it a second time?

Why I'm tempted to . . .

Probably.

I actually took my dvds of Firefly and Serenity with me to a writer's conference because I love the cadence of Whedon's dialogue.

The other writers there also agreed.

Good fast paced dialogue between witty characters gets me everytime. I was heartbroken when this wasn't picked up for a second season.

Yeah.....I'll probably end up buying it too...(or I'll ask for it for Christmas - my family has it so easy when it comes to shopping for me). It would be nice if they put all that stuff out the first time, but it's all about the money...and making as much of it as possible.

I do love that series/show though. Great characters. Great dialogue. Fun, fun, fun.

What what what?!?!?

This is what I get for not having TV set up. Oh yes, I'm buying it. My Serenity DVD is a bit worn anyway. And I don't mind shelling out for anything Whedon's done -especially Firefly related things - as many times as necessary.

I bought the series on DVD recently, having heard good things. I watched one or two episodes a night for about a week and a half, and as it got closer to the end I felt my heart sinking lower and lower. It was emotional indeed.

I bought Serenity when it first came out on DVD (again, on high recommendation) and found myself fully enjoying it as a stand-alone production. I'm yet to watch the film again since finishing with the TV series, but I get the feeling that the knowledge I have of it will no doubt improve the viewing experience.

And to answer the question: yes, I shall most definitely be buying the 2-Disc edition.

I'm pretty sure I'd buy Joss Whedon's grocery list. There's just something that sparks of brilliance in that man's writing, dialogue, and character development that I just can't deny.

And yes, I'm buying the new DVD. Maybe I'll give the first one to my niece, who (much to my dismay) only has an illegal copy of it. She has no sense of giving an artist his/her due.

ETA: Yes, Odd, I agree -- by the time I saw the final epsiode (I was watching the series first-run) we'd already found out it was canned, so that final ep, during the scene when they deliver the man's body to his parents, and it's snowing - I was crying my eyes out.

I don't believe it was actually aired here in the UK, but it's been out on DVD for some time now. Apparently on its first run they cut it before the Season had even finished.

The last episode on the DVD I have is the one with that sadistic, philosophical bounty hunter (brilliant character, if not really disturbing - I went cold when he asked Keely is she'd ever been raped).

That episode where they deliver their comrade's body is superb, though. It's rare for filmed entertainment to have a soul,of sorts.

Joss Whedon recently said in an interview at comicon that Serenity II depends on DVD sales for the special edition of Serenity.

So if you love Serenity buy it again so we can all have our sequel!

Sci-Fi Channel on Sky has obliged a couple of times -- even had a Firefly weekend where all eps were shown back to back, followed by the Whedon interview, coordinated with Serenity's release, I think.

ETA: Having just watched them on the DVD, they look so much better on my new widescreen tv than they did on the computer screen.

Buy another DVD of Serenity just for more footage? Like I have a choice. Of course Whedon can have my money. I could just express mail my debit card to the man, but my account would hardly buy him lattes for the week. As for Serenity 2, I would definitely miss Wash, he was so wonderful. I also loved him as Steve the pirate in Dodgeball, and as the robot in I, Robot. He's just cool.

I just watched the movie & the extras... it says two hours on one disc & one hour on the other, but it took four hours, so clearly they snuck in an extra hour somewhere on there (& I didn't even look for Easter Eggs. Maybe I should do that... um... tomorrow).
