I need a last name for my MC. His first name is Roger. In brief, his personality: he used to be an assassin, he's commanding, used to being in charge, and doesn't like being disagreed with. Yes, he can be a total jerk. He's also extremely protective of his family. So I would like his name to be somewhat harsh, manly, and sharp. I think a German, Russian, or Slavic name would do well. I am favoring names that begin with W, K, S, or T.

Unfortunately the white pages of my local phone book are 50% Hispanic, which is not what I want, so I'm having a hard time coming up with something. (The other 50% is 2,000 Wilsons and 5,000 Smiths. ;))

So. Any help would be appreciated! Here are my current ideas (and feel free to tell me if you like any of these as well):

Wallace, Walsh, Ward, Knight (is this one too cheezy?), Hamilton, Weiss, Wild, Wolf.

Kuznetsov. Could be anglicized as Kuznetsoff, especially if his family has been in the US a while. Russian, means blacksmith, sounds pretty tough and manly to me.

I'd go with something a little less familiar than Russian, say Serbian or Croatian. Most Serb surnames end in -ic, pronounced "-itch". Rex Stout, in his Nero Wolfe mysteries, had a gourmet restaurateur friend of Wolfe's, named Marko Vukcic (and ultimately killed him off). There was, of course, the vile dictator Slobodan Milosevic, not to mention the 1980s tennis star Slobodan Zivojinovic; commentators used to love that one. You could put together any number of consonant-rich combinations with that -ic ending and make them work.

Sash and Dmitri have Federov. That's a good one. Except Roger Federov sounds like Roger Federer, so never mind.

Um...there's always Moskowitz....but that's a jewwwwww name.

I'm really bad at last names, sorry.

Also, Moskowitz is only good on people named Feivel. ;)
