Has anyone worked with them before or know about working with them on their anthologies? In my search for an appropriate pub to send my NF proposal, I checked them out, and found that while they're not a good fit for my WIP, they are looking for short submissions for their next set of "Funny-but-True" anthologies.

(Here's the link: http://www.meadowbrookpress.com/aboutus.aspx?nid=288 )

So I said to myself, "Eh? Why not? I've got a few of those." I e-mailed the editor for samples of the pieces from their forthcoming book to make sure that I was in the right framework. Got a reply back and the samples and I think I'm a fit. (Of course, it's up to them to ultimately decide that.)

But before I send it off (the deadline's Sept. 1), is there anything that I need to know? I checked Backgrounds and Bewares and didn't find anything particularly sketchy about them.

TIA for any help anyone can provide!

Is this the Meadowbrook Press owned by Bruce Lansky? If so, he's a nice guy. I met him at BEA several years ago. I don't know anything about his business practices, but liked him when I met him.

Just bumping this up.... Wordsmith, did you ever submit to them? If you did, have you heard anything back? I'm just curious because I submitted for their baby/toddler anthology and haven't heard anything yet and it's been about 2 months, i believe.

Thanks!

Hi Tymolee,

I did decide to submit--also to the baby/toddler anthology. I got a reply back from the editor after submission, which was surprising, b/c I figured that she'd be too swamped. She said that they would be making decisions in January about which title will be next in the series and that I'd hear back from her then. I wouldn't worry if you haven't heard anything yet, I guess decisions will partly have to do with which book they do next as well as the quantity/quality of the material submitted. (I know nothing, that is just my opinion based on what the e-mail said.) So, in the nutshell, I wouldn't worry yet about not hearing back from them.

How cool would it be if we both made the cut and that the next one they do is the B/T anthology?

I completely forgot to subscribe to this thread and just stumbled back on it. Duh!

Thanks for the info - I appreciate it! That would be awesome if we both made and the cut and the baby/toddler book was next. I'd be over the moon. Good luck - I hope it works out for you (and me!). Let me know what ends up happening. :)
