Hi guys! Hopefully I'm posting this in the right forum, and hopefully this question hasn't been asked before; I've searched through the threads and haven't found anything that exactly deals with my question(s), and they aren't answered in the Membership Requirements page at sfwa.org, so here goes. :)

I've been wanting to join SFWA for a while now, especially since my first paid sale in May of this year. However, I was wondering how the Membership Requirements apply to co-writers.

My writing partner and I (with of course the extremely tireless efforts of our amazing agent) sold our fantasy novel to Bantam Spectra in a two book deal; one book (the one on submission) already written, the other to be written by August of 2008. We had both wanted to become SFWA members, as Bantam Spectra is a qualifying market, but we haven't applied yet, as we were unsure if the two book deal counts as two separate books sold and/or if we would need to have two books sold in order to join, as we are two separate writers attempting application.

Anyone know the answer to this? Your help would be greatly appreciated! Now, it's back to lurkerville for me.

From the qualifications page:

"Collaborations between two persons are counted as half (two novels or six short fiction collaborations, or one collaborative novel plus three collaborative short stories, etc.). Note that collaborations among more than two people are not accepted."

So you could join as an associate now for sure (because you've got 1.5 pro sales) -- not so sure if you could join as a full member yet since the other book hasn't been delivered, but I'm sure the membership people could help you answer that detail.

Yes! OK, I was pretty sure that that was the way it shook down, but couldn't find the exact qualification on the page for some reason. I feel silly. :)

Cool. I will see about asking them about that, I suppose, since I'm unsure whether it entirely counts as one for each yet, or not. :)

Thanks so much!
