Is anyone else concerned that a lot of these ancient British actors aren't going to make it to Number 7? We already lost Richard Harris, but at least that was before he'd made more than one. What about Maggie Smith (looking older by the day)? In the latest movie, I thought the actor playing Vernon Dursley looked absolutely TERRIBLE. There's no way he'll be around to finish the series. Who else could possibly play Uncle Vernon with such sadistic panache?

Is this like a Potter Dead Pool?

My money's on Ratcliffe; he'll be shooting up horse before the end of the series, I'll be bound.

I agree that Maggie Smith looks old, but she has an air of health and energy. There may be hope for her yet.

The Uncle Vernon guy, though, looks like a heart attack waiting to happen. I saw him in an interview and he looks even worse than in the movies. He's very obese and he just looks like he's barely hanging on. I'll place my bet on him as the first to go and I'll cross my fingers that Alan Rickman will be the last to go!

I thought uncle vernon was wearing a fat suit in the movie (seriously!). I have no idea why.

Maggie Smith will stay with us longer. She just has to!
No. No fat suit. Real fat. He's been fat in a lot of British films (Withnail and I, to name one).

I agree that Maggie Smith does seem to have an air of health about her. But two more movies could take several years to churn out. Hold on Maggie!!

I think Maggie Smith is 72 or 73 so she's getting up there in age. I think she would look a bit healthier if she weren't so thin. Her face is so bony and it makes her look older.

If Vernon Dursley goes the way of Dumbledore, I call Danny Devito to the plate. Don't think he's up to much right now.

Well, it's not as thought we don't know what will happen in movies 6 & 7. They need to just get crackin' and film the Old Wizards scenes now.

He's got a new series (can't remember what cable channel though) called It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Looks funny but very bizarre...kind of like Danny.

But I'm sure he could squeeze in a HP film or two if necessary. :)

I remember thinking the same thing back about Richard Harris. Sad when it actually happened.

Aside from Maggie, who is way too strong and healthy really I think she'll be fine for quite a few years still, and Griffiths, who does look like he may have a heart attack, I really don't think any of them are in the so old they could kick the bucket any day now category anyway.

The great thing about British actors is that when they get old, they still have work. Look at Maggie Smith -- she's amazing, and shows up in all kinds of stuff. Same with Michael Gambon, Sir Ian McKellen, Richard Harris before his death.

Here we just kind of shuttle them away once they turn 60.

Well, and that's a good point. Some of them are rather bizarre looking. The Brits either don't get plastic surgery, or they have better doctors.

I saw an interview with an older british actress (name doesn't come to mind but it wasn't Judi or Maggie) who said that exact thing. That there are so few actresses her age that look their age that she gets like almost all the roles. She then said she hoped Maggie and Judi would get plastic surgery so that she would then have the market cornered. It was cute!

I hate plastic people with plastic faces. Whatever happened to growing older with dignity and grace, instead of grabbing at the tenuous threads of what used to be?
