Both and depends.

If you are the type who likes a cover page that has all the contact info and title of the story and nothing else, then chapter 1 would start on page 2.

If you're like me, all that is on page one and the story starts halfway down the page.

When I include a cover page, I don't put a page number on it. Just the title, contact info, word count, etc., as requested by the agency. Page 1 is still the first page of chapter 1.

It doesn't really matter. Number them however you like. I don't even use a title page.

Thank you, maestrowork. I had the story on the first page (which I didn't number). Then, I made the mistake of reading "how-to" blogs.

I've never understood the point of a separate title page. Like others mentioned here, I put the contact info at the top and start with the manuscript about halfway down the page.

Anyone know why or when or where the separate page ever became a suggested format?
