So I just stumbled on this right now and felt the need to put it out there:

The X-Files Sequel (http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSN1530128720070716?feedType=RSS&sp=true&rpc=92)

Yep you read that right. Mulder n' Scully are coming back together like PB&J.

In the IMDB, I guess the release date is sometime in '09. Plenty of time for buzz.

I hope it's better than the first movie (snore!) and more like the episodes (except the ones after Mulder left for good).

X-Files 2: Good idea or gratuitous attempt to revive that old magic about 5 years too late? Discuss. :)

I have never quite loved a television show the way I did The X-Files. It was shameful - I'd pop champagne on the season opener.

Oh my god. Did I just say that out loud?

Geek.

It's not like you were watching something really special--like Millennium.

Personally, I liked the first X-Files movie. It wasn't incredible, but I enjoyed it. And given how many conspiracy angles have been worked over in the course of the TV series, it's got to be damned hard to come up with something for a movie that would just be so above and beyond without becoming goofy.

It's all good. You're talking to a guy who watched all 9 seasons every night for nearly 3 months straight because he got addicted to it AFTER it went off the air. (Friend of mine owns all the seasons and INSISTED I watch it.) So I know something about what you're talking about.

Just a question...did you find yourself drinking more and more champagne just to get through seasons 8-9? I know I wanted too...(shudder).

Honestly, I hope they skip the conspiracy stuff altogether and just do a monster-of-the-week type episode.

Honestly, the next crop of TV viewers doesn't care about the smoking man.

Yeah, I'm kind of over the conspiracy crap as well. It'd be sweet to see an old fashioned monster-of-the-week. I dunno why they're making a new movie now, it seems kinda late. But, there's a new Mr.Bean flick and I can't recall anyone crying out for that either. ^_^

I watched X-Files faithfully until Duchovny left the show. I was horrified when I learned they killed The Lone Gunmen off at the end of the series. What a crummy thing to do to those fellas.

-AnThanks for bringing that up. I'd forgotten. Now I'm depressed all over again.

Damn. I didn't know that. I never have seen the last season. Now, I don't want to.

I own all 9 seasons, the first movie, and the Lone Gunmen series. I would totally get the second movie. Maybe if they had stuck with one conspiracy it would have been better but I do like the episodes that don't have Duchovney in it. I just don't like the part where they try and get Doggett and Reyes to become a couple like Scully and Mulder. There just wasn't enough time for them.

Perhaps the movie will be about resurrecting the zombie Lone Gunmen and their ensuing quest to eat brains and bring down the government? ^_^

The truth has been hanging out there for a long time. I would have liked to see the squel done a bit closer to when the series was ending.

But I'll see the movie anyway. I way too big of a fan to skip it. :)

I'll believe it when they actually START shooting.

CC has broken too many hearts and given out too many lies over the years to get me excited over these announcements... they come out every few months, all the fans get excited and then we get nothing.

I watched episodes of X-Files here and there and enjoyed it more often than not. I also enjoyed the movie. I'd go another round.

I liked the Lone Gunmen too and hated to see them killed off; but let's face it, the end of the series was on the way so these characters got the heroic sendoff they deserved. Especially since it was their chance for a proper goodbye after their mediocre spinoff series was overwith. Several longstanding characters were eliminated (at least we were led to think), most of whom had some connection to the grand conspiracy arcs. That fact alone might mean there's room for fresh material (like some of the better MOTW episodes) in the next movie or TV return.
